Roy Jones Jr. was a force to be reckoned with during his boxing days. He is a former middleweight champion and heavyweight champion, becoming the first boxer in over 100 years to accomplish this feat. Remarkably, he also became the undisputed light-heavyweight champion in 1999, holding belts in three divisions.

Even today, Captain Hook is regarded by many as one of the pound-for-pound greats and is ranked in many all-time pound-for-pound lists. Jones may have been one of the best; however, even he feels that there are certain fighters who could pose problems for him.

In an interview with Breakbeat Media, the former champion was asked to pick two fighters who he would like back him in a hypothetical fight. Jones Jr. chose himself the best pound-for-pound boxer ever, Sugar Ray Robinson. However, his third pick was surprising as he chose current WBC champion, Tyson Fury.

Captain Hook explained his reason behind this and stated that Fury was just too tall for anyone to pose a threat to him. He explained that this was why Wladimir Klitschko and Deontay Wilder weren’t able to beat him.

“He doesn’t have the best chin but he is six-nine. They got to reach it. That’s what caused Klitschko problems, that’s what caused Wilder problems, that’s what causes everybody problems,” he said.

He even compared the Gypsy King to NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar because of his massive height advantage. “Then you’re just trying to fight Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. They’re used to fighting somebody their size, he’s almost out of reach now… he’s smart on top of being out of reach,” he added.

There is a lot of truth in Jones Jr’s comparison, as Fury is one of the tallest heavyweights in boxing. His height advantage on top of his slick head movement makes him one of the best in the eyes of the former champ.

Will Fury come back from retirement?

As of now, Fury is retired from the sport of boxing. However, he could potentially come back to face Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed heavyweight championship.

Although Fury might have initially wanted to face Joshua in a super fight, he is willing to face Usyk. Undoubtedly, this could be a chance for Fury to cement his legacy as the best heavyweight boxer in history.
