Fans are witnessing a genuine clapback. Thankfully, it’s confined to the virtual world. Oscar De La Hoya‘s ‘Thursday Clap Back’ series, which has gained a cult following since its debut last year, took aim at Bill Haney in its latest episode.

Devin Haney and De La Hoya’s starfighter Ryan Garcia faced off on last April’s Barclays Center card. The aftermath of the fight, riddled with controversy and lawsuits, set a tense and sardonic tone. While talks of a potential rematch persist, the atmosphere between both camps remains bitter ahead of the fighters’ anticipated returns. In his weekly show, De La Hoya sneered at Devin Haney’s father. Needless to say, it prompted a swift and pointed response from Bill Haney, who took the taunts to a deeply personal level.

Bill Haney: Make sure your house is in order before judging mine!

Bill Haney began by questioning De La Hoya’s boxing credentials while highlighting his own achievements. “Oscar De La Hoya was never undisputed, something Devin and I accomplished together because we trusted each other. I’m the 2023 Manager of the Year because I believed in my son, and he believed in me,” said Haney Senior.

Fact Check: Bill Haney did, in fact, win the prestigious Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) Manager of the Year Award in 2023, beating notable managers like Egis Klimas and Keith Connolly. However, Haney didn’t stop there. He turned his critique to De La Hoya’s personal life: “That’s something @OscarDeLaHoya never had with his father, and it shows in how he treats his own kids.”

Bill Haney then accused De La Hoya of neglecting his responsibilities as a father. He claimed that the former champion lost the trust of his children and failed to maintain meaningful relationships. In contrast, he highlighted his own children’s success. “So, Oscar, before calling us crybaby bit**es, remember your kids who are crying for their father for REAL. 🤦🏽,” Haney concluded.

The attack was deeply personal, but what exactly provoked such ire from Haney?

Oscar De La Hoya: The driving force behind Devin Haney’s career decline

This clapback is dedicated to the worst manager in boxing history, Bill Haney. Something we can all agree on,” began De La Hoya on his most recent ‘Clap Back Thursday.’ De La Hoya accused Haney Senior of overshadowing his son, who, as a result, lacks independence in his career. He portrayed the lawsuit as an overreaction and framed Bill Haney as a sore loser.

De La Hoya ridiculed the Haneys’ decision to pursue legal action after Devin’s loss to Ryan Garcia. “Bill felt it was a better idea to have Devin sue Ryan Garcia for battery and emotional distress, to sue Golden Boy, and to sue the New York State Athletic Commission to get Devin’s loss expunged from his record what to fight a civilian at the Orange County state fair, to take the rest of the year off, and to make as many enemies as possible, thus cementing their legacy as the biggest crybaby in the history of boxing got,” ‘The Golden Boy’ said.

He also mocked the Haneys’ recent visit to London, suggesting it was a desperate attempt to resurrect their financial situation. De La Hoya dismissed Devin Haney’s career, claiming it only holds value through a potential rematch with Ryan Garcia. “If Devin loses to Ryan Garcia again, we can all wave goodbye to the Haneys,” he said.

Fans are now awaiting further responses. With both sides gearing up for May bouts, the verbal sparring is unlikely to end soon.

What about you? Was the personal nature of these attacks warranted, or did both sides cross the line?
