After spending considerable off time, Canelo Alvarez is finally in the line to take up his first fight of 2022. The p4p biggie will enter the boxing ring on May 7 against Dmitry Bivol, who’s the WBA light heavyweight king. That said, this is expected to be a rugged encounter post in which Canelo might get to face rival Gennady Golovkin in a trilogy.

Alvarez, prior to getting lined up with Bivol, was in contention to face the likes of Jermall Charlo or David Benavidez. However, he seemed more interested in taking up Matchroom’s two-fight deal that will put him against Bivol and then ‘GGG’ potentially.

Canelo spoke to the media about why he chose this deal over the other.

He said, “Because I like the idea to go 175 (pounds) and fight the second-best fighter in that division, champion. For me, it’s continue (to) make history right? And that’s a good challenge for me.”

Later, on a question on Jermall Charlo and David Benavidez, Alvarez said, “It’s don’t really I wish, I really don’t care, but sometimes everybody you guys ask so much, ‘hey you need to fight with Canelo Canelo Canelo Canelo’. Why they don’t fight each other? And I fight the winner of all of them.”
