Today, the entire boxing world dodged a bullet as a bear nearly took a chunk out of Devin Haney. ‘The Dream’ Haney is coming off a massive win over Regis Prograis to close out 2023. It helped Haney become a two-division champion and the WBC super lightweight world champion. He is also in the talks to potentially face Ryan Garcia, but that nearly became a moot point.

The X user shared a clip alongside the caption, “I’m happy Devin Haney out here enjoying the fruits of his labor. But that damn bear better stay away from his damn knee. We got greatness to watch #HaneyGarcia #HaneyDavis.” Even Haney wrote in his story explaining how the bear almost rendered him paraplegic. “He was bout to bite me,” wrote Haney.

In the clip, Haney is captured kneeling on one knee as he feeds the brown bear that appeared to be calm at first. However, out of nowhere, the bear decided the treats weren’t good enough. ‘The Dream’ doesn’t dream of being the fighter of the year

In the span of the departing year, Devin Haney went up against Vasyl Lomachenko, winning the fight via unanimous decision. Later, he climbed up to the 140 division to take down Prograis, getting crowned the WBC Super lightweight champion. Meanwhile, his dominant performance against Prograis made him the prime contender for the Fighter of the Year award.

Moreover, Terence Crawford and Naoya Inoue are vying for the same spot, creating a buzz among the fans. However, Haney doesn’t seem to be interested in winning the prestigious award. In a tweet from 28 December, the Las Vegas resident wrote, “[I don’t] care [a]bout no fighter of the year ima b[e] fighter of the decade.. InshaAllah.”
