Daniel Dubois looks like the perfect heavyweight prototype boxer. He is big at 6’5 feet, his punches have enough power to win him fights via knockouts and he has put on enough muscles to scare anyone off just by his mere sighting. With a record of 21-2 and holding the IBF interim World Heavyweight Championship belt, it is clear that ‘Dynamite’ was made for boxing and nothing else. So, it was shocking to hear when Dubois talked about his other interests and sports he used to play before boxing. He comes from a family that loves sports and has tried a few sports in his younger days.

One of the sports mentioned by the 27-year-old took everyone by surprise and created a rather hilarious moment. Ahead of his much-awaited fight against Anthony Joshua, Dubois sat down with DAZN for an interview. After a while, the interviewer asked Dubois about his backup plan “Did you always want to box? Was there anything else that Daniel Dubois would be doing?.” The Greenwich resident mentioned his family and how he loves sports. “We love sports, I love sports, Dubois stated, mentioning his family and their love for sports.

Dubois comes from a sports-loving family and almost everyone in his family is an athlete. His love for boxing comes from his father and Dave Dubois. Dave was the reason that the IBF interim champion took on the gloves and certainly, that was the right decision for him. Furthermore, Dubois’ sister Caroline Dubois is tearing up the lightweight division in women’s boxing and currently holds the IBO and WBC world lightweight championship with an undefeated 10-0 record. Daniel Dubois’ younger brother, Prince Dubois, also had a short career in boxing for a year.

With boxing so far embroiled in their blood, it was a funny moment when Dubois mentioned that he used to do gymnastics. The whole room erupted in laughter with the boxer himself, seeing the irony in the situation.

Daniel Dubois’s experience in gymnastic

The 6’5 feet boxer mentioned the several sports he used to play in college. He was part of the swimming team and also tried gymnastics. “I used to do swimming. I even tried a bit of gymnastics.” The interviewer couldn’t control his laughter as he tried to imagine the huge frame of Dubois on the parallel bar trying to do a flip. “Imagine you 20 stone,” said the interviewer with the biggest laughter on his face.

Dubois accepted the fact that he was not good at it and struggled. ” I was very stiff, to be honest. I gave it a go,” stated the boxer, accepting the fact that gymnastics was not for him. Maybe him trying all these different sports strengthened his resolve and cleared his mind about boxing and the rest of his history.
