Floyd Mayweather, who went undefeated and with mountains of cash, defeated Manny Pacquiao in a dominant show of performance. Eight years from that day, the chatter in the boxing world still continues about the potential of a second showdown between the two fighters. 

However, things are not as simple as they seem, as a sudden hiccup involving Showtime has left fans questioning if the fight is still on. Recently, World Boxing News revealed that Showtime is interested in hosting the rematch between Floyd and Pacquiao. Even from a financial perspective, the pay-per-view sales will go through the roof, given the historic significance of the bout. Moreover, Phil Jay from WBN reported on the potential fight, and the updates are shocking, to say the least.

The fate of Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao

The much-anticipated exhibition fight was supposed to unfold in Tokyo in the RIZIN New Year’s Eve event, spanning six rounds. Even a press conference to announce the matchup was all set in place. However, things quickly fell apart when Showtime showed their disinterest in hosting Mayweather’s comeback against Pacquiao.

Here is the twist! Even though they wanted to bring back Floyd, it wasn’t against Pacquiao, who people wanted to see. Rather, Showtime’s plans were to pit Mayweather with Mikey Garcia. It was supposed to be the grand farewell event for Showtime, as they were leaving boxing after 37 years of operations.

As expected, the cancelation of the announcement upset the fans who wanted the Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather rematch. While uncertainty has taken over the possibility of the rematch, there is still some hope for people who want to see the much-anticipated rematch.

Showtime now has the opportunity to negotiate and potentially host the rematch as their final show. 

What happened during the first fight?

With the excitement surrounding the potential rematch, no one would think that fans were left asking for more after the first clash in 2015. Floyd Mayweather’s dominant performance over Manny Pacquiao had zero room for further excitement. Also, after the fight concluded, Pacquiao blamed his shoulder injury and called for a rematch.
