What’s the one thing that puts Terence Crawford at a disadvantage against Canelo Alvarez? His weight. Fans and experts alike recognize Crawford as the more skilled boxer, but the size difference has always tilted predictions in Canelo’s favor. But what if Crawford erased that gap? What if he fully adjusted to a higher-weight class?

Based on his latest Instagram story, Crawford is already working toward that goal. With months to go before the blockbuster showdown, ‘Bud’ is walking around at a career-heaviest 186 lbs—suggesting he’s serious about acclimating to the added weight. This revelation has reignited fans’ hopes that Crawford could defy the odds and take down Canelo.

Is Canelo Alvarez in trouble?

Earlier today, ‘Dan The Boxing Man’ hopped on X to share Crawford’s Instagram story on the platform. “Terence Crawford’s current weight as he prepares for his return in September against Canelo,” he captioned the post. However, it’s important to note that Crawford recently moved to 154 lbs to fight Israil Madrimov.

While he secured a unanimous decision win over Madrimov, it was undeniable that Crawford looked slower. Whether it was due to Madrimov’s awkward style or simply an off night for Bud, one thing became clear—gaining weight doesn’t automatically make 168 pounds feel natural for Crawford. Regardless, when fans discovered Crawford’s new weight months away from September 13th, Las Vegas fight, they were shocked, to say the least.

Terence Crawford leaves fans in denial

Having only seen Crawford dominate in the lower weight classes, fans were stunned to see ‘Bud’ tipping the scales at such a high weight. One fan was completely shocked by the revelation. “Wtf no way he walk that heavy🤣,” the user commented. However, ‘Bud’ had to come up in weight sooner or later.

Another user roped in Shakur Stevenson into the mix. “This is with Shakur standing on the scale too 🤣,” the user commented. Crawford and Shakur Stevenson have been long-time friends and have also assisted each other in training throughout multiple camps.

The next user speculated that Crawford was faking the weight. “Yeah, holding some weights for sure,” the user commented. However, Crawford doesn’t really need to fake his weight. All he has to do is show up for the weigh-ins at the correct weight.

Meanwhile, the next user was convinced they had found out why Canelo didn’t want to fight Crawford. “I see why Canelo don’t want that smoke lol. A 186 Crawford is STRONG af. Y’all will see come Sept,” the user commented. However, the higher weight won’t be of any use if Crawford can’t adjust to it.

Someone else claimed that Crawford’s weight didn’t surprise them because ‘Bud’ was always a weight bully. “Yawn this isn’t nothing new, he’s known for ballooning up in weight,” the user wrote. Everybody rehydrates to their optimal weight after the final weigh-ins, but Crawford’s has never been this extreme.

That said, Terence Crawford is deep in preparation for his showdown with Canelo Alvarez. But can he truly overcome the size disadvantage and pull off the upset? The challenge is immense, and only time will tell. What do you think—does Crawford have what it takes to beat Canelo?
