It doesn’t seem like anything can scare WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis. His record of 28 knockouts out of 30 fights should further solidify this belief. But believe it or not, there’s one thing the face of boxing wants never to happen to him. The Baltimore native is about to enter the ring against WBA super featherweight champion Lamont Roach Jr. on March 1st in Brooklyn.

However, before his first fight of 2025, Davis revealed his biggest fear, which motivates him to win the upcoming bout even more. In a Gloves Off segment on YouTube, the Baltimore native admitted that his biggest fear is losing in front of the world and tarnishing the image he has carefully built.

“My biggest fear is being embarrassed,” Davis said in the video. “Especially in front of all these people worldwide. You become this meme for decades. I ain’t got time for that. I ain’t trying to go out and get my bu*t kicked. I can’t, it’s just my pride. He’s not going to win. You better be ready [Lamont]!”

Given their resumes and past performances, Davis really doesn’t have to worry about losing. Some in the boxing community even think the Roach fight is one of the easiest challenges for Davis, having already defeated Roach in the amateurs twice. Even the odds for the fight seem to favor Davis.

‘Tank’ is coming off an 8th-round knockout victory over Frank Martin in June last year, while Roach defeated Feargal McCrory around the same time via 8th-round knockout. Despite the overwhelming odds that are stacked against Roach Jr., he is not backing down from making bold promises.

Ahead of the Gervonta Davis fight, Lamont Roach Jr. promises all the smoke

Lamont Roach Jr. hears the critics loud and clear, but he isn’t backing down. Despite being the Ring’s No. 4 ranked junior lightweight, many believe he has no business stepping into the ring with Gervonta Davis. Moving up to 135 pounds to face The Ring’s top lightweight, Roach is widely expected to be overmatched. Still, the 29-year-old remains unfazed.

“I’m really him,” Roach said in a self-recorded video. “I bring any type of smoke to anything in my way. I am him in that ring.” While most expect Davis to dominate, Roach refuses to let anyone dismiss his skills. He’s putting in the work daily, enduring grueling training sessions, and when fight night comes, he’s ready to bring all the smoke.

That being said, even though the fight seems lopsided, both boxers are eager to bring home a win for themselves. However, whether Roach can weather the storm that is Gervonta Davis is yet to be seen. What are your predictions for the fight?
