Sugar Ray Leonard claims Terence Crawford needs to “fight his fight”

While discussing ‘everything Crawford’ during the interview, the reporter probed Leonard about the crucial factor Crawford needs to consider while fighting the likes of Canelo Alvarez. Having moved up weight classes during his time in the ring, Leonard was the perfect person to solve the riddle for Crawford. The retired legend calmly came up with a calculated answer, showing how he became the world champion.

“Well, as long as [it] doesn’t prevent him from moving or slipping punches and just stay on the outside – just fight his fight,” said Leonard. It’s worth mentioning that ‘Bud’ Crawford isn’t the first boxer to climb weight classes to fight Canelo. Previously, Amir Khan, a legend of the sport in his own regard, moved up to take on the Mexican superstar and succumbed to a brutal KO at Canelo’s hand. Despite that, a legendary boxing coach thinks Crawford is prepared for the challenge.

The guy who trained Mike Tyson expressed his thoughts about Canelo Alvarez vs. Crawford

The first time Canelo was asked about potentially facing ‘Bud,’ he swatted at the idea, highlighting the weight difference. However, with Crawford’s plans to climb weight divisions, things have started to look interesting. Even Teddy Atlas said, “He’s the most composed guy, you don’t think he’d be prepared [for the power]? You think it will be a shock to him?…That ain’t happening with Crawford.”

He also added that Crawford knows exactly what he is doing, stating, “He’s the one looking for it. He doesn’t have anybody with a gun behind him saying, ‘You’ve gotta go do this.’” Atlas thinks it will be a tremendous fight as both opponents are tremendous fighters. However, it’s worth mentioning that despite all the excitement, there hasn’t been any word on whether the fight would actually happen.
