While Devin Haney is gearing up for his fight against Ryan Garcia on April 20, interesting insights into a fight that never happened have surfaced online. Back in May last year, ‘The Dream’ Haney defeated Vasyl Lomachenko in a close fight. Soon afterward, Shakur Stevenson challenged the former undisputed champion for all his titles.

The duo went back and forth online for a bit, and it was revealed that Haney had offered Stevenson an outrageous deal for the fight, which resulted in the fight falling apart. However, while appearing in the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast today, Haney claimed the offer was more substantial than people realize. Meanwhile, ‘Sugar’ Stevenson hopped on X to label Haney’s statement an utter lie. 

Shakur Stevenson labels Devin Haney a “funniest liar”

During the podcast, one of the hosts brought up Shakur Stevenson and the fight that never happened. In response, Haney said, “Shakur can’t f**k with me. We offered Shakur a fight… All this s**t was real money. He would have made more money than he made in all his fights combined…”

While the statement from Haney left the hosts of the podcast in disbelief because, when the offer was made, Stevenson had twenty fights under his belt, making the offer extremely desirable. However, Stevenson soon took to X, asking for Haney to be awarded an Oscar for lying. Stevenson wrote, “Cuz gotta be the funniest liar I ever seen. Somebody give my ni** a Oscar, pls. He deserves it.”

Moreover, it’s worth mentioning that at the time when Haney offered Shakur the deal for the fight, Stevenson was fighting under Top Rank’s banner. Stevenson’s deal with Top Rank earned him $3 million for their contractual period. However, as per Haney’s fight deal, he offered Stevenson 25% of the purse, which didn’t sit well with ‘Sugar’. Stevenson claimed that he was worth more money than what he was being offered. In the meantime, Stevenson’s further efforts to face Haney have gone in vain. 

Bill Haney says, “He ain’t fought nobody”

Following the first press conference for the Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia fight, the latter started a controversial rampage of social media posts that shook the entire boxing world, leaving many to wonder whether Garcia would be able to fight come fight night. So, Stevenson saw this as an opportunity to position himself as Garcia’s replacement.

However, to the Newark native’s dismay, Devin’s father, Bill Haney, hailed Stevenson as not on the same level as his son. Haney Sr. said in a social media post, “It’s not that I would never entertain a fight between him and Devin, that’s completely false, completely untrue. What I will never do is think that Shakur Stevenson’s word in business means anything when he’s talking to me… Buddy, he ain’t fought nobody. He hasn’t fought anybody that we’re not going to beat.”
