Canelo Alvarez is at that point in his career where he can do whatever he likes and still get paid millions. While fans didn’t get the fight they were looking for, they did get one, which is supposed to be a banger. At least, that’s what Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, thinks. In addition, he has predicted a knockout win!

Not long ago, Canelo Alvarez finally confirmed who he would face come May 4 at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada. Of course, it’s none other than Canelo’s Mexican counterpart Jaime Munguia! So, while appearing in an interview with Fight Hype yesterday, Floyd Mayweather’s business partner expressed his thoughts on the all-Mexican clash.

Leonard Ellerbe feels Canelo Alvarez isn’t thinking about Benavidez

Speaking to the reporter, Ellerbe claimed, “It’s a huge fight. It’s great for the Mexican culture.” He thinks the fans are going to be divided about the fight, especially the Mexican audience. When asked about Canelo taking the David Benavidez fight down the line, Ellerbe stated, “That I can’t speak for. What I do know [is] he has a huge fight in front of him on May the 4th. I’m pretty sure that’s what his focus is.”

Ellerbe further hyped up the upcoming fight, suggesting Canelo Alvarez would definitely knock out Munguia. “Those two are going to go at it, and I fully expect that to be a barn burner with Munguia getting knocked out at some point in the fight,” said Ellerbe.

He further reaffirmed that Canelo is completely focused on that fight and isn’t thinking about Benavidez. While Ellerbe is clearly backing Canelo, another boxing promoter has given his prediction.

Former world champion ready to bet money on his prediction

With the clash just around the corner, Canelo’s estranged promoter and Munguia’s respected promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, has given his prediction. Turning to X (formerly Twitter) today, the head of Golden Promotions crowned Jaime Munguia his winner. He wrote, “@jaimemunguia1527 years young. @Canelo33 years OLD. I have my money on Jaime!!”

Given the long-drawn feud between Canelo and his former promoter, Oscar supporting Munguia is a no-brainer. However, the fact that Munguia defeated John Ryder, a common opponent between Canelo and Munguia, with such ease, where Canelo struggled, gives Muguia’s supporters some hope.

With that said, Leonard Ellerbe seems to be in the larger crowd of Canelo Alvarez supporters for the upcoming fight. However, things can always take a turn, and who knows, Munguia might beat Canelo. Who are you betting on in the upcoming fight? Do you think Jaime Munguia has a shot?
