It was a rough road for Jake Paul in his hunt for the next challenger after the legendary Mike Tyson in November last year. However, at long last, ‘The Problem Child’ has found his next opponent in former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Much like many of Paul’s past rivals, Chavez Jr., the son of a Mexican boxing legend, Julio Cesar Chavez, is well past his prime and flirting with retirement. 

Add to that a history of personal and professional struggles, and it’s clear Paul is sticking to a familiar playbook. In the meantime, Paul’s brother, fellow influencer Logan Paul, has chimed in with his two cents about his brother’s next opponent. While appearing in an interview with The Schmo from the WWE Hall of Fame 2025, the WWE star gave his verdict. 

“I think Jake is taking the perfect path,” Logan said about his brother’s next fight. “I think he’s taking guys who are very good, very skilled boxers that are either at his level or maybe even a bit above.” He concluded, stating, “But lemme tell you something about my brother. That boy can chew.”

This comes after Jake Paul’s unsuccessful attempts to secure high-profile bouts with unified super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez and WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis. So when the fight with Chavez Jr. was announced earlier this week for June 28 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, the reaction was underwhelming.

After all, Chavez Jr. hadn’t fought at all in 2022 or 2023, only to return last year with a lackluster showing against former UFC fighter Uriah Hall. However, things have been even worse for Chavez Jr.

Is Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. ready to fight Jake Paul?

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has faced a turbulent career marked by personal and professional struggles. Chavez Jr. carried the weight of his father’s legacy from the start, often criticized for failing to meet the towering expectations. Despite capturing the WBC middleweight title in 2011, his career soon unraveled due to discipline issues, including repeated failures to make weight and inconsistent performances inside the ring.

Substance abuse further derailed his momentum, with multiple stints in rehab and suspensions for refusing drug tests. Legal troubles added to his downfall—his 2024 arrest in Los Angeles for illegal firearm possession made headlines, with his lawyer warning of possible deportation if he fails to stay sober.

Chavez Jr.’s strained relationship with his father and ex-wife, public outbursts on social media, and controversial losses—like the one to Anderson Silva—have tarnished his image. Critics have labeled him uncommitted, especially after quitting in bouts against Andrzej Fonfara and Daniel Jacobs.
