Who’s the hottest young prospect in boxing right now? There are plenty of contenders vying for that crown, but two names are really turning heads—18-year-old Curmel Moton, a rising star with Mayweather Promotions, and Abdullah Mason, the knockout artist shining under the Top Rank banner. However, Moton, who’s being hailed as the next Floyd Mayweather, is convinced he’s playing on a whole different level!

Mason may have the edge with a dazzling professional record of 15-0-0 and 13 KOs at just 20 years old after three years as a pro, but Moton isn’t backing down! With only six fights under his belt and five KOs, the 18-year-old firecracker believes he’s the fan favorite in the boxing world. He made quite the splash on the Tha Boxing Voice podcast recently, declaring his popularity with flair.

When the host of the show asked, “Do you think you’re a bigger name already in the sport than Abdullah Mason,” Moton didn’t hesitate in his answer. “Yeah, definitely. Like, me and Abdullah are cool… I talk to him sometimes too, but I feel like that’s not really a question,” Moton told Tha Boxing Voice. It’s hard to argue with Moton’s claims—his popularity has only skyrocketed over the past year.

This is especially because of his affiliation with Mayweather Promotions and more importantly five-division champion Floyd Mayweather. Mayweather’s support and confidence in Moton’s abilities have put the 18-year-old in the spotlight since his debut on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo last September.

While Top Rank has done a fantastic job of promoting Mason, he just doesn’t have the same buzz surrounding him as Moton. Even a world champion turned promoter shares this sentiment, praising Moton as the future of boxing.

Danny Garcia had to get Curmel Moton to Philly

‘Big Deal’ Moton is coming off his fight against Hilario Martinez Moreno at the 2300 Arena, Philadelphia. The 18-year-old managed to pull off another 1st round knockout win, which led to the promoter of the event, Danny Garcia, giving props to the young prospect. “Curmel is the future of boxing,” Garcia said.

“He’s signed to Floyd Mayweather, and Floyd knows talent, and Floyd knows how to make a star. When I saw what he could do, I knew I had to get him here in Philly.” Garcia took things a step further and teased Moton’s next bout on November 30 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Now, it has been revealed that the Utah native will be fighting Ecuador’s Bryan Mercado

That being said, Curmel Moton seems confident he’s the most popular prospect in the scene, even with fewer professional bouts than Abdullah Mason. But is the hype real? What are your thoughts on Moton’s bold statement?
