There are still 45 more days to go for the Chavez Jr. showdown, and Jake Paul already has an offer to consider. It’s been nearly six months since the Ohioan fought Mike Tyson. As the new year kicked in, a fight with Canelo Alvarez appeared on the horizon. But it fizzled out as soon as it came. Paul even called out Anthony Joshua before it finally emerged that legend Julio Cesar Chavez’s son will be his next opponent.

During an interview, John Fury challenged Jake Paul for a rematch with his son. The February 2023 loss to Tommy Fury remains the only serious anomaly in Paul’s otherwise perfect but debatable record. So, after the Chavez match, Paul seems to have an opportunity to set the record straight. Eighteen months after he fought KSI, Tommy Fury returned to defeat an unheralded Kenan Hanjalic in a six-round bout. Now his team is looking for the next scalp. However, there’s a catch. Unlike the last time, when Paul received the lion’s share of the pay-per-view revenue, the money must be split on equitable terms.

There’s a fight, Jake Paul, but our terms precede

So when a Seconds Out reporter asked John Fury, “If Jake, who’s got a fight lined up with Julius Caesar Chavez Jr., loses that—that’s a former pro fighter, of course; he’s been out of the ring for a long time—would that fight with Tommy still happen?” the patriarch straightaway went on the offensive. “Jake Paul, this is to you,he said before adding, “You’re fighting behind conversations. Know what I mean, pal? Conversations. Fight Tommy for real 50/50.” According to John Fury, because his son inflicted a loss on Paul, they ideally deserve a 60/40 split. However, they are willing to settle for half of the revenue.

We’ll give you a 50/50 split, but don’t talk like a pr**k with the numbers. We know what the fight’s worth. I’m not a fool. If you want to fight Tommy 50/50 anywhere in the world, he’ll take you straight the f**k out, mate,” John Fury declared. A similar offer was then put forth for KSI, whom Tommy Fury defeated two years ago.

Reportedly, as the A-side for the Tommy Fury fight, Jake Paul had a 65% share of the PPV income. His guaranteed purse was around $3.5 million.

Making up one’s mind

Interestingly, John Fury’s harangue followed son Tommy Fury’s shifting claims. Reportedly, before the Hanjalic fight, Fury mentioned that the rematch with Jake Paul or, for that matter, KSI no longer interests him. He said, “To be honest with you, I’m not that interested. I beat them both, and there is no real motivation. I’m not in boxing to fight them again. I’m not really interested in them and have already gotten my money out of both of them. I’ve already beaten both of them, so I’m not really bothered.

Is Jake Paul dodging Tommy Fury, or is he just playing smart with the fight terms?

But once the fight was over, he seemingly changed his tune. Calling out Jake Paul, a ‘bit**h’ who’s ‘running scared,’ Tommy Fury claimed his injured hand is now fully healed. He just beat a tough, highly experienced opponent after a two-year layoff. So he had a warning for Paul. “Jake Paul wants to step inside this ring. I guarantee you next time I’ll knock you spark out. I’ve had two years out of the ring. This is after two years. I’ll knock that bum out whenever he wants it,said the 11-0 fighter.

Tommy Fury stepped into the ring following the cancellation of the Darren Till bout. His justification to pull out, which primarily stemmed from Till’s threat over using MMA tactics, invited much scorn and ridicule.

While John Fury may have extended an offer to Jake Paul, do you think the rematch with Tommy Fury still interests fans?
