You must be wondering who this insider is.

Well, it’s none other than veteran matchmaker and long-time PBC critic Rick Glaser. With mere days left in the fight, which is scheduled to unfold at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Glaser took to X throwing shade at Al Haymon and the Chairman of Amazon, Jeff Bezos. While Glaser has never shied away from speaking his mind on everything PBC, nobody saw this coming. 

Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga under threat?

It’s worth noting that the Canelo vs. Berlanga fight is available on both Amazon Prime Video and DAZN Boxing, with a price tag of $89.99. Interestingly, DAZN Boxing does offer a one-month subscription with the PPV, but that doesn’t include viewing other major boxing events. For which, subscribers have to again shell out big bucks. Regardless, Glaser requested his fan: “When buying Saturday’s #Canelo-#Berlanga PPV, please buy it from #DAZN.”

He explained that DAZN Boxing supports the sport by airing live fights on the platform several times a week. Whereas, “the other outlet for the PPV #JeffBezos #AmazonPrime, which so far has only done PPV, & gives #PBC nothing whatsoever for Boxing, except a shared revenue PPV Platform.”

This comes after His Excellency Turki Alalshikh slashed prices for the upcoming all-British heavyweight showdown between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois on September 21st, which is now priced at a very attractive $19.99. Although the significant price difference might lead some fans to opt for Joshua vs. Dubois, the true impact will be evident once the viewership numbers are released after both fights.

Meanwhile, the Canelo vs. Berlanga fight is also facing competition from UFC 306, which is scheduled for the same date, headlining, the bantamweight title fight between Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili. That aside, coming back to DAZN Boxing, while Rick Glaser is happy with how the platform works, this boxing journalist isn’t.

Jake Donavan slams DAZN Boxing

Interestingly, Glaser expressed his frustration about people demanding free boxing matches yesterday after His Excellency provided a massive discount on the Joshua vs. Dubois fight. This prompted Jake Donavan, a boxing journalist from Ring Magazine, to air his concerns with the video streaming platform on X.

“‘Free’ is a ridiculous expectation in 2024. Value for a $29.99/mo. DAZN subscription, on the other hand, it’s something that consumers have a right to demand,” Donavan wrote. He alleged that DAZN Boxing does not provide value to their subscribers with their $29.99/month subscription, suggesting they have moved away from their claims about ending pay-per-view to running more pay-per-view than anyone else.
