If there’s one fight in the lightweight division that fans worldwide have been eagerly anticipating, it’s a potential showdown between Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson. However, former WBA super lightweight champion Rolly Romero isn’t convinced, dismissing the matchup as uninteresting.

Romero, of course, is slated to appear in the ring against Ryan Garcia on May 3rd. He even fought ‘Tank’ Davis back in 2022, which saw the loudmouth boxer collect his first career defeat. Regardless, with Stevenson’s latest win over Josh Padley last Saturday night, he has once again expressed his desire to fight the WBA lightweight champion.

It’s not even the first time Stevenson has called out Davis for a fight, but the Baltimore powerhouse doesn’t seem to be in the mood to offer Stevenson a shot at glory. Davis is currently on a collision course with Lamont Roach Jr. on March 1st in Brooklyn, where he will defend his WBA title.

Nonetheless, while appearing in an interview with Fight Hype recently, Romero gave Davis a hall pass to avoid Stevenson. “It’s a horrible fight,” Romero said during the interview. “If I was Gervonta Davis, I wouldn’t even waste my time with him until Shakur gets a f**king knockout.” Stevenson, of course, won his last outing via 9th-round stoppage.

However, there’s a case to be made because Padley literally came in at the last minute to replace Floyd Schofield Jr., who had fallen ill. Regardless, Romero further added, “If Shakur can get three knockouts straight, he should fight Gervonta. If Shakur [can stop] two people… it might be an entertaining fight. At that point right, but right now, he’s just gonna jump around the ring.”

Shakur Stevenson warns Gervonta Davis after a sarcastic comment

Shakur Stevenson successfully defended his WBC lightweight title with a ninth-round TKO over late replacement Josh Padley in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. However, Gervonta Davis was far from impressed. The WBA lightweight champion took to X, simply posting “LOL” in response to Stevenson’s performance.

That did not sit well with Stevenson, who fired back with a warning. With Davis set to defend his WBA title against Lamont Roach on March 1, Stevenson reminded him to “stay focused Lamont ready to tap that chin.”

Stevenson’s response wasn’t just about pride—it was about keeping their potential mega fight on track. A Roach upset would derail the collision course between the two undefeated champions. Stevenson has long called out Davis, hoping to test his “hit and don’t be hit” style against Tank’s explosive knockout power.

That said, Rolly Romero doesn’t seem to think a fight between Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson is worth it. However, fans might have something else to say! What do you think about Romero’s comments?
