Many know the former world heavyweight champion, Mike Tyson, as one of the most feared fighters to step foot inside the ring. However, over recent years, fans have also come to realize that Tyson also has a ‘heart of gold’. He was recently at a fundraiser for the empowerment of formerly incarcerated women. And the champ wasted no time in taking a jab at his prison days.

Tyson was attending the fundraiser for We 2 Matter, an organization run by his mother-in-law, Dr. Rita Ali. Moreover, this was in collaboration with Tyson’s Mike Tyson Cares Foundation. During the event, Ali invited him onstage to address the gathering.

Tyson, however, was amused to be invited on stage. He proceeded to hint at his life in prison, by saying, “Hey, listen, like I said before. I had the best three years of my life in prison.” The champ then broke into a fit of laughter and further added, “So I don’t even know why she told me to come up here. Listen I’m just, I’m just happy, in tribute. That’s all. Thank you very much.”

Notably, Ali started We 2 Matter to help former female convicts re-enter society. Additionally, the foundation also focuses on helping them obtain economic stability. It also offers social services for family members in need of individual and/or family counseling.

Comedian details meeting Mike Tyson in prison

Tyson is often vocal about sharing his experiences while incarcerated. Meanwhile, during a recent podcast episode, comedian Tommy Davidson opened up about meeting him in prison. He was a guest on Tyson’s podcast, Hotboxin’. Talking about meeting Tyson, Davidson said, “He was in there by his f*cking self. Tryna figure out what happened. I didn’t want him to be in there thinking that nobody loved him. So I went there by all myself. We had a nice long talk.”

Moreover, he further added, “You know I was going through stuff too. He told me, right before we were leaving there was a long hallway. He said aye Tommy, I said yo. He said read. Muhammad couldn’t read.”
