The Kevin McBride fight saw the end of Mike Tyson’s career in professional boxing. Tyson had entered the bout at 38 with a loss against Danny Williams and a victory over Clifford Etienne, and fought the raging McBride of 32. The last six of McBride’s victories had come by three knockouts and three TKOs. In his prime and at the peak of his boxing, McBride rattled Tyson for six painful rounds till the latter’s corner called a halt.

Just a week prior to the McBride fight, Mike Tyson made a sad prediction about his life. He had said, “I’ll never be happy. I believe I’ll die alone. I would want it that way. I’ve been a loner all my life, with my secrets and my pain. I’m really a sad, pathetic case.”

Mike felt alone, and he certainly was not in the right mindset to deal with McBride on that night of 11th June.

Mike Tyson said his whole life was a waste

Sorrow and loneliness cornered Tyson. He felt he was a failure and looked for some place to escape. Tyson did not show up that night against McBride to compete and win. All he wanted was to have an income and take care of his burdening bills. One could just might say Tyson did not lose that fight with McBride. Instead, he entered, already beaten, burdened, and lost.

“My whole life has been a waste. I’ve been a failure. I just want to escape. I’m really embarrassed with myself and my life,” he had added by saying.
