Anticipation for the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford fight went sky-high after the UFC boss Dana White confirmed that Alvarez will ‘probably’ make $100 million regardless of the outcome this Saturday night. And while multiple reports also suggested that the total purse for the fight will be anywhere close to $200 million, Saudi boxing matchmaker Turki Alalshikh has finally opened up about Alvarez’s earnings from the historic night.

During the presser, before Canelo defends his undisputed super-middleweight titles against Terence Crawford in Las Vegas, in one of the biggest fights of the century, His Excellency was asked how Canelo feels about being “the first Mexican sports figure with a guaranteed purse of at least $100 million.” Responding to the question, Alalshikh swiftly clarified that the actual number is way more than that.

“No, you get the number wrong. The contract between us and Canelo is more than that,” he answered. Although it is still unclear whether the reporter assumed Alvarez’s huge earnings were from the Saturday fight or if he was referring to the Mexican’s wider deal with Saudi Arabia. Alalshikh’s response also remains unclear whether he was referring to the amount for the Las Vegas fight or the long-term contract. And if you are too keen on knowing the exact figure, it may never be officially disclosed, since Nevada no longer requires commissions to publish fighter payouts.

As for Crawford, he already mentioned that his earnings would amount to a lot less than what Canelo Alvarez would earn in Las Vegas. While appearing on the Ring Champs podcast, the Nebraskan technician claimed, “I got $10 million for that fight [with Canelo].” Even the host of the podcast was left stunned by Crawford’s claim, as they accused him of messing around. However, Crawford doubled down on his claim, suggesting that he was doing it for the legacy.

“I’m doing it for the opportunity, baby, the legacy,” Crawford said. “The legacy outweighs the money. Three-time undisputed, ooo-wee coming soon. And I might go back down 154lbs and do it again.” If true, Crawford has taken the ultimate risk. If he loses, he will not only miss out on the biggest payday of his career but also tarnish his perfect record.

Meanwhile, Alvarez, who is the favorite to win the fight by a distance, is elated to have some Mexican supporters in the crowd. According to the 35-year-old himself, if he wins this fight, it will easily be the best fight in his career. “I can’t wait for Saturday night and thank everybody coming to support the event,” he said. “For sure it means a lot… this win is going to be in the very top.”

This fight also put Canelo in the legendary company of Floyd Mayweather, Conor McGregor, and Manny Pacquiao. According to Forbes, after this fight, Alvarez’s earnings from fights will be the fifth largest in boxing history. What makes Alvarez’s entry to this list even more important is that it’s the first top-5 richest fight that does not involve Money Mayweather, who still owns the top two spots with his blockbuster wins over Pacquiao and McGregor. The Filipino and Conor come 3rd and fourth on the list, followed by Alvarez at fifth.

Well, Saturday is not that far now. While Alvarez, undoubtedly, is the crowd favorite and will take the $100 million-plus home anyway, Terence Crawford can flip the script in Las Vegas. Who are you rooting for in one of the biggest boxing matches ever? Do let us know in the comments below!
