The one-of-a-kind Jermell CharloCanelo Álvarez bout had fans glued ever since it was announced. Charlo had climbed two weight divisions to face Canelo Alvarez, who initially was to lock horns with the older twin, Jermall Charlo. Results favoured Canelo who dominated Charlo in the brawl like it was a piece of cake and won by a unanimous decision. However, some still have their doubts.

Mike Tyson’s former coach and boxing commentator, Teddy Atlas had accused the Mexican beast of seeking ‘help’ from his ‘friends’ who guaranteed his win. Joe Habeeb has reacted in defence of Canelo, calling Atlas an ‘attention w**re’ and discrediting his claims. What do the fans have to say?

Fans draw some interesting conclusions

Atlas upset the Mexican fans by predicting Canelo would bribe the judges to direct the match and emerge victorious in his fight against Charlo. This did not sit well with Habeeb who responded on X calling out the ex-trainer for trying to hoard attention through nonsensical claims. The fans have mixed reactions to this.

One fan called Atlas a joke who starts comparing every average UFC fight to the great Hagler-Hearn 3-round boxing bout.

Another fan came to Atlas’ defence, bringing to focus his earlier predictions which mostly hold true while simultaneously calling him a ‘loud mouth’.

“I rather believe that Canelo bribed Charlo rather the judges” Another commented on Charlo’s subpar performance in the fight and mockingly asked if Canelo had bribed Charlo.

While agreeing with Habeeb on Atlas being a showboat, a fan also raised a few suspicions on the amicable relationship Canelo enjoyed with the judges in his past fights.

The Greatest aka Muhammad Ali would always say, “We can’t be brave without fear.” I am a Boxing author at EssentiallySports and was first drawn to the boxing gym when a friend of mine came to meet me with her hand wraps still on. After arranging enough resources, I joined the gym and eventually tried my hand at MMA as well. A challenging sparring session always left me slightly bruised but happy. I have always enjoyed watching a good fight. Watching Mike Tyson demonstrate what rigorous and disciplined training can achieve motivates me to this day. Amanda Nunes is another beast that I look up to. My coverage of Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou received considerable appreciation as many unknown facets of these entities had been brought to light. Though I could not continue my training in boxing, I have kept myself busy and active through dancing. Outside the ring, I currently train in jazz and hip-hop.
