The hard times for ‘The Tank’ Gervonta Davis seem not to be over. Things began going downhill for the Baltimore-native ever since the majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr. Before that, he had a perfect record of 30 wins. Davis was scheduled to have an exhibition fight against Jake Paul. But it looks like that won’t be happening. This time, due to legal troubles

Davis’ ex-girlfriend, Courtney Rossel, filed a civil lawsuit accusing him of battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The allegations prompted Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) to scrap the event entirely. While Paul publicly criticized Davis in a fiery rant, ‘Tank’s’ coach, Kenny Ellis, insists there’s more to the story than meets the eye.

Gervonta Davis’ trainer shifts the blame to Jake Paul

Amid growing scrutiny surrounding Gervonta Davis, Kenny Ellis took to Instagram—before deleting his post—to defend his fighter. “Netflix did not pull the fight, so don’t blame Gervonta Davis’ accusations,” Ellis wrote. He then turned the tables on Jake Paul, referencing the YouTuber-turned-boxer’s own controversies. “Jake Paul has a far worse track record. He backed out. He said he was scared out of his own mouth.” But how much truth lies behind Ellis’ claim?

In October, Paul admitted to feeling intimidated by Davis, acknowledging the lightweight champion’s achievements. “Actually, internally I’m the most scared going into a fight that I’ve actually ever been,” Paul confessed. However, this statement came before Davis’ lawsuit surfaced. It remains unclear what Netflix communicated to Paul or Most Valuable Promotions once the legal trouble emerged. But this is not the first time that Davis has gotten into trouble with the law.

In April 2023, Davis fought Ryan Garcia while a 2020 hit-and-run criminal case was pending against Davis. Notably, Jake Paul has also faced allegations of sexual assault from TikToker Justine Paradis, which he vehemently denied. His attorney claimed the team would pursue defamation charges, though no lawsuit or criminal case was ever filed against Paul in this particular case. Ellis, however, wasn’t done.

He alleged that the fight’s collapse had more to do with Paul’s inability to make weight than legal drama. “Two weeks from the fight, Jake’s contract weight is 195 lbs. I bet he’s nowhere near fight weight. It’s so many games being played,” Ellis claimed. Still, there’s no verifiable evidence regarding Paul’s weight at the time of writing.

His most recent bout, against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., took place at cruiserweight, where Paul tipped the scales at 199½ pounds—roughly 4½ pounds heavier than the contracted limit for the now-canceled Davis fight. While it’s currently unclear who Jake Paul will fight next, reports suggest the bout has been moved to December this year. And Jake Paul appears to have a new hit list in mind.

Jake Paul reveals new hit list after Davis’ lawsuit

After his planned exhibition bout with ‘Tank’ Davis was scrapped due to a civil lawsuit filed against Davis, Jake Paul is already eyeing his next set of challenges. Speaking to ESPN, Paul unveiled a fresh “hit list” of opponents that could keep him “busy for a few years.”

“Boxing fans and media thought the list was crazy, ludicrous, and impossible,” Paul said, reflecting on his 2021 ambitions. “But the people inside my circle believed because we know the inner workings of boxing.”

This time, Paul’s targets include Terence Crawford, Anthony Joshua, Oleksandr Usyk, KSI, and Ryan Garcia. “That’s a megafight,” Paul said of Crawford, calling him “arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter.” He also hinted at unfinished business with Tommy Fury, saying, “I have to avenge that loss.”

Others on his list include Alex Pereira and Canelo Alvarez. From YouTuber to legitimate draw, Paul insists his journey is far from over. “At the end of the day, I’m here to test my limits.”

From the looks of things, team Gervonta Davis is eager to shift the blame to Jake Paul for pulling the plug on the exhibition match. But do you think Paul made the right decision
