Gervonta Davis is one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world currently. With title wins in three weight categories and wins over the likes of Ryan Garcia, Isaac Cruz, and more, no one can deny his quality. Now, the Baltimore native is all set to return to the ring on March 1 against Lamont Roach. However, the 30-year-old made headlines last month not for his comeback, but rather with his retirement announcement.

He sent the boxing world down a spiral claiming that 2025 will be his last year. The announcement disappointed fans who wanted to see Tank clash against the likes of Shakur Stevenson and Vasyl Lomachenko. As it is Tank’s last year in the sport, according to him, fans want to see the 30-0 in another dream fight against the undisputed super bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue.

Inoue is also a pound-for-pound king with undisputed titles in two divisions and also holds immense power in his punches. A fight between the duo will be an epic clash undoubtedly. However, it looks like Gervonta Davis is not a fan of the idea which resulted in fans brutally rallying against the 30-year-old.

Gervonta Davis: Only fight the fan wants

A ‘X’ user QuadLifeMike shared his desire to watch the Gervonta Davis vs. Naoya Inoue fight in a direct reply to one of Tank’s tweets. The reply sent the southpaw in one of his usual spirals as he attacked the fans in a now-deleted reply.

Ring Magazine’s official ‘X’ page posted the screengrab of the now-deleted tweet as the suggestion perplexed Gervonta Davis. He wrote, “What the f**k,” and called out the fan over the suggestion. He posted another reply immediately, claiming that he doesn’t understand why his name is always brought up against every fighter.

“I’m the only fighter you all want to see in the ring with everybody. Doesn’t matter the weight,” wrote Davis underlying the massive 13 lbs difference between him and Inoue. The Monster is currently active in the 122 lbs and has plans to return to 118 lbs at the end of the year.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Gervonta Davis dodging real challenges, or are fans expecting too much from him?

Have an interesting take?

So, as Tank stated, this fight seems impossible because of the weight discrepancy. However, the reply utterly disappointed the fans who wreaked havoc on Tank.

Naoya Inoue declared superior

A user wrote, “I disagree with Tank he’s the only fighter that doesn’t give fans the fights they want 😂😂😂 he’s literally fighting Roach next,” claiming that Gervonta Davis always takes the easy route. The announcement of Lamont Roach as Tank’s opponent a few months back really took the fans by surprise. They were expecting him to fight against the likes of Stevenson or someone else at 135.

Another user visibly fed up by Tank’s claims wrote, “No. Not at all. Enough with continuing to bring UP smaller fighters. Would rather see you try to unify the division.” He thinks that the Baltimore native should fight against other 135 World champions and unify the titles. “Start with unifying with the WBC. The Fans deserve one true Champion at 135. Too much apprehension in the division,” claimed the fan.

Another fan of the same mind wrote, “Not fit to call himself the Face of Boxing and he’s scared of his own shadow..quite sad,” claiming that Tank would never take any tough fight where he can lose.

Amidst the trolling, a user even declared Naoya Inoue as the superior boxer. He wrote, “If Inoue moves up in weight, he’ll be too much for Tank Davis and he can even send him to the hospital 🏥 by his punching power. He’s very strong and I don’t see anybody beating him at the moment until he retires from boxing,” predicting the result of the fight.

After all, the 31-year-old has outstanding knockout ratio, and he has also successfully defended his WBA, WBC, WBO IBF and Ring Magazine titles with a 26th stoppage in 29 professional wins. That’s no small feat, now!

Amidst the sea of trolling, there was one supporter who did not agree with the backlash that Gervonta Davis was getting. He wrote, “Tanks getting the unfair Mayweather treatment rn lol. He tried to fight Loma he was scared, Shakur doesn’t want the💨 unless it comes with a big undeserved payday. Haney ran to fight a guy he already beat then got beat down lol. Inoue is too small & Tank won’t get credit for it😒,” claiming that it is the other fighters dodging Tank and not the other way around.
