Unified super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez will definitely cause issues for two-weight undisputed champion Terence Crawford when they finally meet in the ring in September later this year. However, the Nebraska-born technician seems to have gotten a leg up on ‘Cinnamon’ recently, as a boxer leaked key details from Canelo’s camp.

Since ‘Bud’ Crawford defeated former unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. in 2023, the only fight he has been wishing for is against Canelo Alvarez, who is currently two weight classes above the 37-year-old. The weight alone is a big problem for Crawford, as his last performance at 154 pounds showed that Crawford might not be as untouchable.

Crawford struggled against Israil Madrimov last year in August, raising questions about his abilities at a higher weight class. Despite that, Crawford believes he will join the likes of Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol to hand the Mexican superstar a loss. And he might just have received massive help in doing so.

You see, 18-0 Dominique Crowder of Baltimore, Maryland, recently appeared in an interview with Fight Hype, where he spilled the beans on Canelo’s camp. According to Crowder, he has a friend in Canelo’s camp who is informing him about Canelo’s training. “He(Crawford) can box. Canelo’s slow on his feet,” Crowder said during the interview.

“I actually got one of my friends in camp with Canelo right now,” he informed the reporter. “So I know Canelo’s slow on his feet. Crawford [is] real good on his feet. He [can] outbox him.” However, even with this advantage that Crowder handed Crawford, he believed it wouldn’t be easy for ‘Bud’ to defeat the former undisputed super middleweight champion.

“But how long he could do that for until Canelo catch[s] up with him,” Crowder continued his perspective on the fight. “You got 12 rounds. It’s like you [are a] tree and he [is] chopping at you until he catch up with you.” Interestingly, despite Crawford’s climb to super middleweight, many, like Teddy Atlas, have predicted that the 37-year-old will surprise the world because of his superior skills.

But what about other fighters? What do they think are Crawford’s chances against Canelo?

Brian Norman Jr. predicts Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford

Brian Norman Jr. believes Terence Crawford has what it takes to shock the world against 34-year-old Canelo Alvarez. The unbeaten WBO welterweight champion, who once sparred Crawford, thinks the mental edge gives ‘Bud’ a real shot in September. “I think he has a great chance with that fight,” Norman said.

“To me, how I think about it, it’s 90 percent mental,” he added. “The fact that he simply not only wants to win this fight, but truly believes he can win this fight, I know he in the gym, training as hard as possible to be on point to win this fight.” Norman, who once rooted for Errol Spence Jr., admitted he knew Crawford would win the 2023 showdown.

He also recalled sparring Crawford when he was just 20. “I can definitely see why he is who he is and why he is where he is at in his career,” Norman said.

With that, it’s safe to say that nobody is counting out Terence Crawford against Canelo Alvarez just yet. If Crawford can use his footwork, as Crowder revealed, for the entire 12 rounds to outbox Canelo, he can come out victorious. However, Canelo is called an active legend of the sport for a reason, so theorizing a strategy and executing it will prove to be two different things. Who do you think will win?
