Gervonta Davis is busy dealing with his civil lawsuit. But that hasn’t stopped Floyd Schofield from calling him out. The 23-year-old hasn’t fought since his win over Tevin Farmer last year. But when an arrest warrant was issued for ‘Tank’ Davis earlier this year in connection with the civil lawsuit against him from his ex-partner, the WBA crowned him ‘champion in recess’, and the title became vacant.

Schofield was the first to benefit from this outcome, as he is the WBA No. 1 contender. He was initially in talks for a fight against No. 2 contender Lucas Bahdi for the vacant title, but the fight was scrapped as Bahdi couldn’t be ready for the fight in time for the targeted April 18 date. So, he is now targeting a fight against the champion in recess himself—Gervonta Davis.

“We earned the right to call Tank out,” Schofield Jr. wrote on X, highlighting his status as the WBA No.1 contender. “This fight will be mandated one day… we ready.”

It’s worth noting that Davis still reserves the right to come back and directly fight for the WBA strap, skipping over any eliminators. So, it’s possible that Schofield faced Davis, but there’s a problem. Several reports indicate that the Baltimore native is plotting a return against rival interim WBC super lightweight champion Isaac Cruz

Davis defeated Cruz back in December 2021 in a close, action-filled fight. There’s no confirmation regarding the same, so only Davis’ next step will decide whether Schofield gets his wish granted or not. In the meantime, though, Davis’ path back to the ring appears to have become even more difficult as TMZ Sports released a video recently.

Gervonta Davis’ alleged assault footage of ex-girlfriend surfaces online

Davis’ ex-girlfriend, Courtney Rossel, filed a civil suit against him in October, alleging battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The claims stem from an incident that took place on October 27 last year at Tootsie’s, a Miami strip club. She also filed a police complaint in connection with the incident.

An arrest warrant was later issued for Davis, and he was apprehended in January before being released on an $8,500 bond. As the case progressed, Rossel’s attorney presented eight video clips in court on Tuesday, which allegedly depict the assault. The footage reportedly shows the 31-year-old confronting Rossel in a hallway before 4 a.m., appearing to grab her by the neck or hair and force her through the venue.

The clips further show the pair moving down staircases and through the club, before Davis allegedly forces Rossel to exit the premises. However, she eventually breaks free and runs back inside. The footage was obtained by TMZ Sports and later shared on X. Davis’ attorney has denied the allegations, claiming that he did not harm Rossel and asserting that the incident is a ploy to extort money.

The attorney later provided a statement to TMZ Sports.

“We were disappointed with the court’s ruling today. As we do not believe the video tells the entire story.”

While this doesn’t impede Davis’ path back to the ring, especially since civil cases don’t involve jail time, it certainly makes things difficult for the Baltimore native. Do you think Davis will fight Schofield?
