It has been three years since Floyd Mayweather lost one of the closest people in his life, Marikit ‘Kitchie’ Laurico. Naturally, on the third anniversary of her passing, the boxing legend took to social media to share a heartfelt tribute in her memory.
“Gone but never forgotten 🙏🏾🕊️❤️,” Mayweather wrote on Instagram.

He also shared several photos of the two over the years, capturing moments from their travels around the world. Laurico passed away on March 31, 2023, at the age of 47. While an official cause of death was never confirmed, The Sun reported that she had felt unwell following a trip to Dubai.
The report further suggested a possible heart attack, though this was never verified. As for her relationship with Floyd Mayweather, there is no confirmed timeline of when she began working with him. However, she is widely regarded as a longtime aide throughout his 25-year-long career.

Some reports indicate that Laurico moved to the United States at the age of 11 and later worked as an assistant in marketing and publicity. She reportedly met Mayweather through a mutual friend and soon became his assistant after he personally asked her to join his team.
After her passing, Mayweather’s daughter and former partner, Melissa Brim, posted public statements mourning her death. However, Floyd Mayweather had chosen to keep things private. He finally broke his silence on Laurico’s death during a podcast, where he broke down in tears.
Floyd Mayweather called Laurico a sister he never had
Back in February 2024, Mayweather emotionally reflected on the loss of Laurico during an appearance on The Pivot Podcast. The boxing legend revealed Laurico was far more than an assistant—she was his closest confidant.
“Kitchie was the only person in life that I could talk about anything to, that knew my deepest secrets,” he said. “There was no male or female in my life that I told more stuff to than her.
“Through rain, sleet, snow, or hail, she had my back,” he added, praising her loyalty and support.
Despite working with him for over a decade, Laurico never sought financial help, focusing instead on supporting him and guiding his children toward positivity.
“All my assistant wanted to do was support me… and she was a positive person,” he shared, fighting back tears. “We argue, we debate, we help each other… that’s a sister I never had. A best friend I ever had.”
Floyd Mayweather may not have suffered a loss inside the boxing ring. However, outside of it, the loss of his closest confidant appears to have affected him deeply.
