Floyd Mayweather Jr. probably thought he left the boxing ring for good in 2017—gloves hung up and record spotless at 50-0. But here we are—eight years later—and his name and record still find a way to remain at the center of many boxing debates. Sure, he’s retired, living large, and building a real estate empire in New York City, but his past in the ring just won’t let him rest. And now? One of boxing’s most respected legends’ verdict from 2011 has come back to haunt him.
We’re talking about none other than Roberto Durán—the Panamanian warrior and one of the iconic “Four Kings” of Boxing alongside Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns, and Marvin Hagler. These weren’t just great fighters—they were battle-tested warriors who defined an entire era of boxing. Durán, who racked up 103 wins in his 119-fight career, didn’t hold back when speaking to the Daily Mail in 2011. This was the era of the verbose Floyd Mayweather, where he often made remarks referring to himself as the greatest ever. This, in some way, might have rubbed Duran the wrong way. Hence, the pointed diatribe from the legend. But why recap now? Well, ‘Seconds Out’ decided to revisit the old Duran interview in a report they published a few days ago. That was all that was needed. The boxing community soon jumped on the interview, and excerpts from it are now going viral on the internet.

Roberto Duran disliked the talk coming from Floyd Mayweather
“Roberto Duran has fired shots at Floyd Mayweather’s claim that he would dominate any era,” posted Boxing Kingdom, a popular boxing handle on X, earlier yesterday. And what did he say, you ask? “I laugh when Floyd Mayweather says that if he went back in time he would beat us all,” Hands of Stone said in the interview. And if that wasn’t enough, he further mocked Money Mayweather for flaunting his perfect record. “If he was in the same era as Hagler and Hearns and Leonard and me, I don’t think he would be such a big name. There is too much talk,” stated the four-division world champion. And that’s coming from someone who boxed for 33 years, 4 months, and 21 days compared to Floyd’s 21-year career.
Roberto Duran has fired shots at Floyd Mayweather’s claim that he would dominate any era:
“I laugh when Floyd Mayweather says that if he went back in time he would beat us all. I’ll tell you this: if he was in the same era as Hagler and Hearns and Leonard and me, I don’t think…

Even though Floyd Mayweather retired in 2017, fighting fewer fights than Manos de Piedra, let’s not forget he also flaunts a perfect 50-0 record, beating top names like Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya, and Canelo Alvarez. Still, Durán’s not convinced that an undefeated record equals greatness across all eras. And honestly? That’s a debate boxing fans love to sink their teeth into. Anyway, just when it seems like Floyd Mayweather’s perfect boxing record is under fire, guess what? His $402 million real estate empire is catching some heat, too.
Truth or Tale? Floyd Mayweather dubbed Pinocchio
Crowned the richest boxer in history, Floyd Mayweather lived like money literally grew on trees. Yachts, private jets, designer fits—you name it, he had it. But now? Things might not be as picture-perfect as they once seemed. In fact, boxing insider Rick Glaser just dropped a bombshell that could hit harder than any punch Money Mayweather ever threw in the ring: his fortune might not be as untouchable as everyone thought. And guess who saw it coming way before the rest of us? Yep—none other than 50 Cent.
What’s your perspective on:
Could Mayweather really have survived the brutal era of the 'Four Kings'? What do you think?
Have an interesting take?
Let’s rewind a bit. Back in October, The Real Deal reported that Floyd had invested a jaw-dropping $402 million into 60 buildings across New York City, adding up to about 1,000 affordable housing units. Sounds like a boss move, right? But then came the twist. Floyd Mayweather later appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where he casually claimed, “I don’t know the exact number. I own, right now, somewhere upwards of 100 buildings or more; I think 99% of my buildings are in New York City.” That’s when things started sounding a little… off.

Cue 50 Cent, the ultimate internet troll and former close friend turned relentless critic. He jumped on Instagram and unleashed the heat. First, he mocked Floyd’s fuzzy math with a classic roast: “Oh my God. If there safe to say, I should say LOL. Champ is the richest special ed student. LMAO.” Then he really went in, suggesting that Money Mayweather didn’t even know what he owned—and worse, that people were ripping him off behind the scenes. “Oh s**t wait, I think Champ think he own them buildings. They beating him out of the money. He saying he don’t know what he own… Somebody tell champ he just publicly said he live in NY. They will come and take 58% of any income he has,” Yikes!

And just when you thought 50 was done—nope. 50 went full petty mode and posted a meme of Floyd dressed as Pinocchio—long nose and all. The caption: “Over a hundred buildings and 99% in New York. 😆LOL THATS CAP CHAMP WE SHOULD SLAP THE S**T OUT YOU. LMAO GLG🚦GreenLightGang 🎥let’s work,” Classic 50. The beef between these two has been simmering for years, and clearly, it’s still red hot. If this latest round of shots is anything to go by, don’t expect either of them to back down anytime soon. However, these assertions by 50 Cent still remain unconfirmed at the moment.
With that said, do you think Floyd Mayweather would’ve thrived in the era of the ‘Four Kings’ against legends like Duran and Leonard? Who do you believe would win in a prime matchup: Floyd Mayweather or Roberto Durán? Do let us know your thoughts below.
