Claressa Shields is out looking for her next fight, and IBF, WBC, and WBA welterweight champion Lauren Price seems to have caught her eye. The undisputed heavyweight champion is coming off a masterful win over Danielle Perkins in February earlier this year, where she became boxing’s only, male or female, three-division undisputed champion.

However, there’s one problem in making a fight between Shields and Price—the massive weight gap. And from her comments today with Sky Sports, it appears Shields has a solution for that as well. Price, on the other hand, has quickly made a name for herself. The former kickboxer has amassed a flawless record of 9-0, having last defeated former welterweight champion Natasha Jonas via unanimous decision.

Speaking to a reporter from Sky Sports, Shields revealed she was impressed with Price’s performance, stating, “[I saw] Lauren Price fight and I was like, ‘wow, pretty impressive,’” To tackle the weight issue, Shields claimed she is willing to come down in weight specifically for the fight, noting, “[154lbs] is the lowest I can get.”

However, if Price wants to fight at 160, Shields seemed open to that as well. “And if [Price] wants to fight at 160 [lbs], too, don’t be afraid to eat a hamburger and come on up,” Shields told the reporter. With Price’s progression thus far, it would appear she might want to run for the undisputed status at welterweight, but a lucrative deal can entice her to square off against Shields.

Despite Shields’ interest in fighting Price, she seems to have some competition now to secure the potential bout. 

Mikaela Mayer joins Claressa Shields to target Lauren Price

Fresh off her unanimous decision victory over Sandy Ryan, Mikaela Mayer has set her sights on an undisputed welterweight showdown against Lauren Price. Mayer, the WBO champion at 147 pounds, acknowledges that to make the fight happen, she’ll likely have to travel to the UK. “I’m not naive to the fact that I’ll be coming in with one belt, and Lauren Price has three,” Mayer told The Ring before defeating Ryan.

“The chances of getting it here in Vegas are slim. If I have to go to the UK, I will.” Mayer even praised Price’s win over Natasha Jonas, stating, “She has better movement and speed than Jonas.”  It’s worth noting that Jonas was only the second boxer to hand Mayer a loss. Regardless, while wary of judging in the UK, Mayer remains confident. “I’ve got to go in there and make it clear, do my absolute best,” she said.

Having said that, despite Claressa Shields’ desire to fight Lauren Price, the latter may end up fighting Mikaela Mayer first for the undisputed title. However, Shields can always swoop in to fight the winner. Who do you think Shields would end up fighting?
