Former unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. continues to remain on the sidelines of action, as chances of his return start looking bleaker and bleaker every day. There were some talks about a fight against WBC, WBO welterweight champion Sebastian Fundora a while back, but even that went belly-up recently. However, the boxing world has a name for Spence Jr.

Spence Jr. last appeared in the ring against former two-division undisputed champion Terence Crawford in July 2023, which ended disastrously for ‘The Truth.’ Regardless, the question remains: whom do the people want the former unified champion to fight next? Well, a post on X from ‘Adams Boxing Show’ makes a good argument for a recently returned world champion.

Errol Spence Jr. asked to make this legendary fight

“Errol Spence jr vs Keith Thurman is still one of those old past-due fights that can still be good,” ‘Adams Boxing Show’  argued on X earlier today. Keith Thurman, fresh off a spectacular third-round knockout victory over Brock Jarvis in Australia, has made it clear that he’s open to the right opportunity. “I’m open to any contract right now,” Thurman said after his recent victory. However, the former two-time welterweight champion is also in discussions for a potential bout against Australia’s Tim Tszyu. Despite that, Thurman isn’t ruling out other options. “Tim Tszyu’s not finalized. It’s very easy to say; it’s very easy to talk about. He came off two losses – he needs to get a W,” he added. Interestingly enough, though, Thurman has addressed a fight against Spence Jr. directly.

“Let’s make it happen, baby. I signed my contract. It had Errol Spence’s name right on it. I signed my side,” Keith Thurman told Fighthype when pressed about a fight against Spence Jr. recently. “His side never signed, and then he shifted away to go get the money with Bud [Terence Crawford].” Even though a fight previously didn’t work out, Thurman hasn’t taken it personally and remains open to the idea.

Coming back to Spence Jr. vs. Thurman, ‘Adams Boxing Show’ added, “Neither guy has championship belt leverage to belittle the other either. That grudge match can still draw interest. Matches like that get made all the time in the UK. That’s why their boxing scene flourishes.  They know how to make a storyline and matchup regardless of a belt being on the line.”

However, this begs the question, what do people think about the potential bout?

The boxing world is divided on Spence’s next step

Even though making a fight between Spence and Thurman right now doesn’t seem to be on anyone’s agenda, it sparked a lively debate among fans. One user suggested Spence Jr. should never fight again. “I don’t think Spence should fight again for health reasons,” wrote the user. Spence has had some health issues, including an accident in 2019, a detached retina, and more. However, whether they are preventing him from fighting again is unclear.

Meanwhile, this user seemed to think the time for a fight between Spence and Thurman had passed. “That fight expired bro, I’m not tryna see Errol against Thurman,” the user commented. As Thurman revealed previously, he was open to the fight, but Spence chose to fight Crawford instead.

Someone else wanted Thurman to fight Tszyu next. “It’s Thurman vs Tszyu next period. Errol Spence being mentioned as an opponent for anyone is borderline criminal,” the user wrote. However, the Tszyu fight can only be made if Tszyu wins his upcoming fight against Joseph Spencer, per No Limits CEO George Rose.

Another user felt Spence would never fight again. “I don’t think Spence is ever fighting again,” the user commented. From the looks of things, that might be the case. The next user felt Thurman would be too soon for Spence Jr. “Spence needs a rebound fight like Thurman; a confidence builder,” the user wrote. When that will happen is yet to be seen.

Having said that, people seem to think Errol Spence Jr. should fight Keith Thurman next. However, there are a few things to figure out before that can be made possible. But do you think Spence Jr. vs. Thurman is a good fight?
