Amir Khan claims Munguia could be the next big Mexican star after Canelo Alvarez

During the interview, Elie Seckbach, the reporter for ES News, questioned Amir and Mauricio about their thoughts on a potential clash between Canelo and Munguia. After pondering for a bit, the ‘King’ suggested it would be a great matchup. He went on to suggest that Munguia is coming off a win and building experience.

“It’s a great fight. I think Munguia is now coming up against…getting some experience behind him,” said Khan. He also added that Canelo might be on his way out of boxing – so Munguia could be the next big Mexican fighter in boxing. Moreover, the WBC President chimed in, suggesting there’s an undeniable sense of something extraordinary unfolding. “Every time two Mexicans meet in the ring, it’s special,” said Mauricio.

Jaime Munguia’s last fight against Sergiy Derevyanchenko

While the rumors of Canelo facing Munguia are taking over the boxing world, he is coming off a massive win against Sergiy Derevyanchenko. Mungia secured victory via a shot to the body that dropped Derevyanchenko in June earlier this year. The fight unfolded in Ontario, California, but the win almost did not happen.

The knockdown happened in the final round, which resulted in the round being scored 10-9 in Munguia’s favor. However, if the round was scored 10-8, it would have resulted in a majority draw at 114-114. Moreover, the official scores show 115-112, 114-113, and 114-113. Despite his latest win, however, the Canelo fight remains uncertain.

While WBC President and Amir Khan have lit the fire for a potential fight between Canelo and the 42-0 Mexican knockout artist, the fate of the clash remains cloudy. However, the burning question is – would you like to witness the clash between these two behemoths?
