Fans chant for Yordenis Ugas’ retirement after eye injury

Rarely do people online settle on one decision, but in Ugas’ case, fans reached a unanimous decision. Fans left remarks with concerns and requests for Ugas to retire from boxing. While some were harsh, others showed sympathy for the former champion. One user wrote about Ugas’ eye and suggested he might want to hang up the gloves. Given the fact that he suffered a similar injury previously, he might even lose sight if any more damage occurs to the same spot.

Another user, too, echoed a similar sentiment, stating that Ugas is well past his prime and should retire at this point. It’s worth mentioning that Ugas had retired from the sport once before, in 2014. He had been on a two-year-long hiatus because his promoters had dropped him after his first loss.

Someone tried to explain that health is the most important thing in life. The user also claimed that his corner should have thrown in the towel after the 10th round. According to the user, Ugas was only ahead in three rounds out of the twelve.

One user recollected Ugas’ fight against Errol Spence, where he suffered a similar injury. The user claimed Errol caused the initial injury, and during the fight against Mario, the same came back to the surface.

Another user went straight to the point by claiming that Ugas needs to retire from the sport. Currently, Ugas is 37 years old with an adorable young son. Ugas might be at the crossroads of retirement, but the decision to go through with it must be his own.

In the aftermath of Ugas’ brutal fight against Mario, fans have shown concerns about his eye injury. However, only time will tell if Ugas concurs with his fans’ belief. In the meantime, we would like to hear about your take on the matter. Let us know in the comments below.
