On March 29, Oscar Valdez and Liam Wilson squared off against each other at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona. The highly anticipated bout was all or nothing for the 33-year-old Nogales resident. So, Valdez stepped into the ring with everything on the line and managed to get his hand raised by the end of the fight.

For his seventh-round technical knockout victory, Valdez was awarded the interim WBO super featherweight title, which could help him upgrade the title to the full version. However, as the dust had started to settle after his fantastic performance, VADA recently released the results of doping tests conducted for the Oscar Valdez vs. Liam Wilson fight on social media.

Oscar Valdez: The history didn’t repeat itself!

VADA announced earlier today that Wilson and Valdez have both received clearances from the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association on X (formerly Twitter). They wrote, “Congratulations to @oscarvaldez56 & Liam Wilson for successfully completing @Vada_Testing through their March 29, 2024 bout.”

However, that wasn’t the case when Valdez was about to fight Robson Conceição back in September 2021. On September 1, Mike Coppinger from ESPN reported that Valdez tested positive for phentermine, a central-nervous stimulant. Despite that, Valdez was allowed to fight Conceição, which he won via an unanimous decision. Nevertheless, Valdez might be eyeing a career-defining fight against this boxing legend.

Valdez claims it would be stupid to miss this opportunity

Ahead of the Wilson fight, the Eddie Reynoso-trained fighter had seen his future in the 130-pound division for the long haul. However, there’s one guy for whom Valdez would be willing to climb to 135. And it’s none other than his Top-Rank stablemate, Vasiliy Lomachenko. Valdez made his desire known in an interview with Boxing Scene

“It would be stupid for any fighter to leave that opportunity [against Lomachenko] – it’s a dream fight for me. He’s a world-class, pound-for-pound fighter. You always have a shot at it boxing. Every fighter who steps in the ring has a chance,” said Valdez before his fight against Wilson. But it’s yet to be seen whether the Lomachenko fight gets made.

After a clean chit from VADA, it looks like it’s smooth sailing for Oscar Valdez and Liam Wilson. However, it would be interesting to see who both fighters get into the ring against in their next bout. Who would you want to see opposite Valdez?
