Mike Tyson never seemed like a guy who cries! However, there are certain things that can make even ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet’ cry. His late trainer and mentor, Cus D’Amato, for example, is one of those people who can bring the most feared boxers to tears. That’s what happened not so long ago when he revealed the five words he would say to Cus. 

Cus D’ Amato was the guy responsible for turning Mike Tyson into the youngest Heavyweight champion. Sadly, the legendary trainer passed on to the other side on 4 November 1985, leaving fans and Mike to traverse the boxing world alone. Despite that, Mike made his way to the absolute top of the boxing world. So, this is the five-word message Mike has for his adopted father, Cus.

Mike Tyson urges not to make him cry

Not so long ago, Mike met up with Patrick Bet-David to discuss the impact of a mentor in front of a live audience. After the pair spoke about the topic for some time, they started accepting questions from the audience. One of the audience members questioned Mike about what he would said to Cus if he was alive.

‘Iron’ Mike wasn’t expecting such a personal question, so he had to take a minute. However, with each second that passed, Mike became emotional and finally responded. “S**t, don’t make me cry. Why are you asking me that question? s**t,” asked Mike. He then went on to reveal the five-word message, “I would say…I would say – ‘They call me the greatest,’” said Mike Tyson. While Cus might have passed to the next world, he left a piece of himself in Mike, as revealed in a recent video.

‘Iron’ Mike mirrors Cus D’Amato

A while back, an old clip of Mike and Cus surfaced online. Boxing and Street Workout shared the clip on Instagram with the caption, “Legendary coach Cus D’Amato.” The clip showed Mike helping an aspiring pugilist with the same techniques ‘Kid Dynamite’ once learned from his legendary trainer, Cus D’Amato.

While the clip created a buzz among boxing fans, it better showcased how Mike has turned into the very figure who taught him the ABCs of boxing. Mike’s role as a trainer becomes even more apparent by the fact that he personally trained Francis Ngannou. Also, everyone knows what Ngannou did, and some of its credit definitely goes to ‘Iron’ Mike.
