There are always moments in boxing that define a fighter or a fight. For some, it’s built on power, skill, and dominance. But for others, it’s remembered for the wrong reasons. Back in 2016, when Ryan Garcia turned pro, no one could’ve guessed that this is how a fight of his would be remembered. Ryan Garcia beat Devin Haney by a majority decision last year in April, dropping him three times in the ring. But the glory of the win didn’t last long as he tested positive for Ostarine, a PED. The win was overturned and ruled a no-contest, and what followed was even worse—Garcia was suspended from boxing for 1 year and was subsequently sued by Devin Haney for battery, fraud, and breach of contract in the U.S. District Court in New York.
A tentative settlement has since been reached as both camps work toward a rematch, aiming for the second half of 2025. But can they really run it back? Because His Excellency Turki Alalshikh has added a twist that complicates everything. Both Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney must first clear Level 1 by winning their respective fights — Garcia against Rolly Romero, and Haney versus Jose Ramirez — at the Fatal Fury event on May 2nd. Only then can they meet again in the ring and settle the score once and for all. As for whether the lawsuit has actually been dropped? That part’s still murky. When asked, KingRy’s father, Henry Garcia, gave a cryptic answer.
A few hours ago, Fight Hub TV shared a clip on Instagram. “‼️ @procoachhenry 𝐑𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐒 if Devin Haney dropped the lawsuit that was filed against Ryan!” the caption read. In the clip, a reporter asked Henry Garcia whether the lawsuit involving Devin Haney had been dropped, especially since it seemed like it was tied to the rematch. Henry Garcia didn’t exactly give a firm yes or no. “That’s one of the things that you know, has been written down. So we’ll have to see with everything,” he responded with a hint of uncertainty. It seems, though the two parties have come to an agreement regarding the suit, nothing much is concrete until they each win their next fight.

Moreover, he added that, “It’s just something that the lawyers deal with all that stuff.” Meanwhile, he’s doing what he’s supposed to do. Henry Garcia’s just focused on being there for his son, and letting the legal team handle the rest. “My whole purpose is to protect my son, support him, and be there for him,” he stated.
Now, when it comes to the rematch? The reporter brought up how the rematch needs to be in the U.S. this time, instead of handling the business in Riyadh or somewhere else. Garcia Sr. totally agreed. “That’s something that I would love. I would love the MGM. I mean, I would love that,” he suggested. But that’s not all. “I mean I just said MGM. But you know, T-Mobile, anyone of those would be perfect. It will be perfect,” he added.
However, moving back to the rematch talks, he mentioned negotiations (about the venue and the date) are still ongoing, but what we do know is “it’s scheduled for October.” So yeah—lawsuit stuff is still kind of floating out there in legal limbo, but the rematch? It’s very much on the table and being worked on.
Anyway, when it comes to training, Henry Garcia is making sure Ryan Garcia is in peak condition — not just to handle Rolly Romero, but to remind Devin Haney exactly where he stands. So, what makes this training camp so special?

Ryan Garcia back to his former trainer
Earlier this year, news broke that Ryan Garcia had reunited with his former training team: Coach Eddy Reynoso, the same guy who trains Canelo Álvarez. Even Henry Garcia confirmed the reunion, saying they’d put the past behind them. But that partnership didn’t quite pan out. At least not this time around. Why? Well, Canelo just signed a four-fight deal with His Excellency Turki Alalshikh and has his own bout scheduled the day after the Fatal Fury card. So that ship sailed pretty quickly.

But does that mean Ryan Garcia’s out of options? Not even close. Enter Derrick James — the former trainer of Errol Spence Jr., who trained Garcia for his first fight against Devin Haney. The 24-1 boxer announced over the weekend that he’s back training with James. He shared the news on X, writing: “Major announcement. Working with Derrick James this camp. And it’s been going great 🥊 let’s go. May 2nd fatal fury,” And hey, once Ryan Garcia gets through his next couple of fights, could we possibly see him square off with someone like Jaron “Boots” Ennis?

That might sound wild, but Ryan Garcia’s already been throwing shade Boots’ way. Especially after Ennis’ sixth-round RTD win over Eimantas Stanionis a few days ago. KingRy’s been vocal, saying Boots doesn’t belong on the pound-for-pound list yet. Not until he faces a big name like Terence Crawford. Backing him up, Ryan Garcia’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, even chimed in, saying a Ryan Garcia vs. Boots matchup would be a massive hit, because of Ryan, not Ennis.
Now here’s the thing — fights like that don’t just happen overnight. But this is boxing — anything can happen. Do you think Devin Haney will actually drop the lawsuit before the rematch happens? Is Ryan Garcia’s training camp strong enough to handle both Rolly Romero and a potential fight with Boots Ennis? Do share your thoughts with us below.
