It’s been over six months after he thwarted the ‘Ferocious’ Aussie George Kambosos Jr.‘s challenge. Devin Haney is set to defend his title again on May 20. But his opponent is miles away from an easy walkover. He is reputedly one of boxing’s foremost tactical genius. But, Vasiliy Lomachenko is almost ten years more experienced than Haney. So in all probability, he would be giving his all in what could be one of his last attempts at clinching the world titles.

But the 135 lbs division has other exciting match-ups, with one of the year’s most significant fights zeroing in on April 22. WBA (Regular) title holder Gervonta Davis would face former WBC (Interim) Lightweight champion Ryan Garcia at Nevada’s T Mobile Arena. The hype around the much-anticipated match is growing in leaps and bounds, given the boxers’ credentials as one of the sport’s hardest hitters.

As much as the duo is busy harping pins at each other during press conferences, talks have been running about ‘what next’ after the fight. Incidentally, Devin Haney seems to have chanced upon an interview with Ryan Garcia as the guest. He shared it early today with over 2 million followers on Instagram.

Ryan Garcia mentions, “Right after this, we’re calling out Devin Haney. Bring on Devin; I mean, that’s another prime fight. Hang on, Devin. I fought him six times on amateurs. Now we need to have the seventh one.” When asked about the overall outcome of their amateur matches, Garcia replied, “Three and Three.”

On May 20, at the MGM Grand Arena, Haney stands as a clear favorite to win. So if that comes about, then there is a chance he moves up the ladder to the 140 lbs, the Super Lightweight. The decision might as well require him to part ways with the titles. Hence, if a Ryan Garcia-Devin Haney fight comes about, it is safe to say that it is likely to happen at 140 lbs, instead of 135 lbs. and perhaps sans any belts at stake.

Garcia, on the other hand, appears to be taking the Davis fight as a tune-up. Reportedly, he considers the fight against Haney the biggest one of his career.
