Former IBF super middleweight champion Caleb Plant suffered his only professional defeat at the hands of Canelo Alvarez. The two met in the ring last year with the Mexican winning by TKO in the 11th round. However, despite being knocked out by Alvarez, Plant feels that ‘Saul’s’ power was not something to fear.

In a recent interview with FightHubTV, Plant snubbed Alvarez’s power after being asked what it was like getting hit by his punches. He stated that although Alvarez’s punches were powerful at first, their effect diminished as the fight progressed. “I mean you know it’s like the first punch he’s gonna hit you with you know your ribs are gonna explode. But then I started feeling some of his shots and I’m like this isn’t it.” he said.

He added that despite him being KO’d by Alvarez, his punches were not something to be afraid of. “Like obviously the outcome, in the end, was I didn’t make it to the final bell, but you know in the moment I wasn’t getting hit a lot. Some of the punches that were touching me or hitting my arm, or I would roll one off or get caught with one here or there. But it’s not like something where I was like oh man you know, petrified or something like that. I don’t know so but in the end, he got the job done.” he added.

Plant is certainly confident that he would have beaten the Mexican superstar had it not been for a lucky shot. However, it was clear in their fight that the undisputed middleweight champion was a level above Plant.

Caleb Plant will return for the first time since losing to Canelo Alvarez

Plant will make his return to the ring for the first time since his loss to Alvarez on October 15th. He will be fighting two-time WBC super middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell in a WBC super middleweight title eliminator.

Moreover, the event will be headlined by former WBC champion, Deontay Wilder, who will face Robert Helenius in a WBC heavyweight title eliminator. This bout will be a great opportunity for Plant to get back into title contention and face Alvarez in a rematch.
