The generational rivalry between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn has always been a hot topic among British boxing fans. But after their latest fiery exchange at a media conference in Manchester, the tension has hit new heights—turning up the drama and sending fans into a frenzy!
The pair is set to throw down at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 26, and they wasted no time in heating things up at their kickoff press conference. From start to finish, both fighters traded insults, setting the stage for what was already shaping up to be a fiery showdown. But things truly went off the rails when they stepped up for their obligatory face-off. As they exchanged words, Eubank Jr. suddenly pulled an egg from his pocket and smashed it across Benn’s face with his left hand.
As expected, this sent Benn into a full-blown fury, transforming him into a raging bull before security rushed in to break them apart with his father, the legendary boxer Nigel Benn, also getting involved in the melee. Following the incident, Benn’s promoter Matchroom Boxing honcho Eddie Hearn issued a stern warning to Eubank Jr. while appearing in an interview with Seconds Out. “If anyone here sees Nigel Benn tonight, avoid him,” Hearn told the press. “Don’t approach Nigel Benn tonight. This is what we got to think about on Friday and Thursday now.”

“We have to put provisions in place because this is an attack on-site stuff. Conor’s not going to sleep on this and then go, ‘Oh it’s okay. Yeah don’t worry about it, Chris.’ As soon as he sees Eubank, he’s going to attack him.” Not long after Hearn’s warning, Benn hopped on X to directly address Eubank Jr. directly.

Why did Chris Eubank Jr. smash an egg on Coner Benn’s face?
Benn and Eubank have long had bad blood. Their fathers were rivals during their prime, and that rivalry was passed down to the boxers when they turned professional. In October 2022, the pair was slated to fight each other, but the fight was called off because Benn failed a voluntary drug test.

This sent him on a difficult two-year battle with the anti-doping authorities, with his suspension finally being lifted in November. Benn continues to deny taking banned substances on purpose. Regardless, an independent report from the WBC in February 2023 revealed that his failed drug test was not intentional.

The report also suggested that Benn’s failed drug test could have been caused because of overconsumption of eggs. Do you get where this is going? “Apparently egg contamination was the reason for his two failed drug tests. So I contaminated him with an egg,” Eubank wrote on social media following their recent incident.
