Undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez is about to square off against his Mexican counterpart Jaime Munguia on May 4 at T-Mobile Arena Las Vegas in Sin City. However, it has been revealed that Ronald Ellis, Canelo’s former top sparring partner, has joined Munguia’s camp ahead of the fight to assist with his preparation.

What’s even more interesting is the fact that Canelo’s arch nemesis, David Benavidez, who many claim has the potential to defeat Canelo, fought and defeated Ellis back in March 2021. So, AccordingToBoxing, a prominent boxing news source, turned to social media yesterday to bring the same update to light.

Can Jaime Munguia cause an upset with help from Canelo’s former sparring partner?

Turning to X (formerly Twitter), the source shared an old sparring clip, featuring Canelo Alvarez and Ronald Ellis going at it in the ring. Meanwhile, they wrote in the caption, “The man you see sparring Canelo below is none other than Ronald Ellis, who actually was stopped by Benavidez a little while ago.”

AccordingToBoxing further added, “He’s now in Munguia’s camp to help prepare him for Canelo… That’s interesting…” Whether training with Canelo’s former training partner will help Munguia or not is still unclear, but Munguia should be able to gather some information on Canelo’s blind spots.

Meanwhile, Jaime Munguia has hinted at the possibility of a knockout when the fight gets underway!

Jaime Munguia wants to make Canelo Alvarez fight

Canelo Alvarez will be Munguia’s biggest and most difficult fight to date. So, he isn’t going to leave any stone unturned to win against Canelo. Whether his move to hire Ellis works or not is yet to be seen. However, Munguia claims he has a plan for the fight. Speaking to Fight Hub TV recently, the undefeated boxer spoke his mind.

“I do believe I’m pushing, and I’m giving you my word that I’m going to do my best to get him to fight with me,” said Munguia. He later added, “At this point, I don’t really know, but the possibility of a knockout will be there. Whenever you are in the ring, anything can happen.” Going into the fight, he is a major underdog, so if he does knockout Canelo, the Munguia stocks are about to skyrocket.

With Canelo Alvarez’s former sparring partner joining Munguia, things have started to get interesting. What seemed like an easy win for Canelo may end up looking entirely different come fight night. Do you think Jaime Munguia has what it takes to stop a legend in his tracks?
