“Hey guys, don’t pay attention to anything. This f**king YouTuber, I just fight real fighters… no f**king around with Canelo!” Canelo Alvarez had stated casually in a video message, throwing out the fight talks he had been having for months with Jake Paul. Months of negotiations, an LOI, a verbal agreement, and a multi-million dollar deal, and the Mexican star threw everything aside as soon as Saudis came calling.

His Excellency Turki Alalshikh signed Canelo to a two-year, four-fight contract, tying him with Riyadh Season till the end of 2026. In one ruthless move, the 34-year-old ascended to the top of the boxing throne, while Jake Paul lost everything. And as of now, he is still out looking for his next opponent. However, a question remains unanswered: Did Canelo ever give The Problem Child a second thought?

The easiest decision ever for Canelo Alvarez

Ahead of his undisputed super middleweight championship bout against William Scull, the 62-2-2 boxer sat down with The Ring’s Mike Coppinger for a candid conversation. As the conversation moved forward, a curious Coppinger asked about the Jake Paul fiasco. “You were in those talks for Jake Paul, and then you made the four-fight deal with Riyadh Season and Turki Alalshikh. How easy was it to make that deal when you got it done?” he asked.

It turns out that for Canelo Alvarez, this was the easiest decision he ever made. At the time, the unified super middleweight champion was very close to signing a deal with Jake Paul, leaving his match with Terence Crawford, something His Excellency desperately wants to see up in the air. This gave the Mexican an upper hand in the negotiation, and HE Alalshikh was more than happy to spend that money on the biggest name in boxing.

“You know it’s very easy when they know you, when you know the people. It’s very easy because both parts are good to go to work. They are happy I’m happy and that’s all matters,” Canelo revealed. He also clarified that having four pre-confirmed fights gave him a sense of security, a rare thing in today’s boxing because of all the different promotions and organizations. “It’s nice, even more than this point of my career. It’s nice to have the plan already. Obviously, you need to work and win the fight. But yeah it’s nice to have a four or five deals. You know already what is next,” he concluded.

Jake Paul bout is still possible

Recently, the Mexican superstar sat down with Large from Barstool Sports for a DAZN Boxing interview. During the interview, Large showed his relief that Canelo Alvarez is not fighting Jake Paul and asked him how he fooled Paul into thinking he was ready, just to do a 180 at the last second. Surprisingly, Canelo remained calm and replied, “You need to play your cards,” confidently.

However, the Jalisco native is still open for the bout in the future, given it is not a professional fight. “I [would] not even call [it] a fight. It’s an event for me,” he declared. But with him tied up with the Riyadh Season, this is “not the moment,” he declared.

Well, it seems like we can still see the Canelo Alvarez-Jake Paul clash in the future, once the Mexican wraps up his Saudi contract. However, for that, The Problem Child will have to forget Canelo’s dismissive remarks and swallow his ego. Can he do that for one of the biggest paydays of his career? Only time will tell.
