Canelo Alvarez or Terence Crawford—who would win—the debate rages on! In the meantime, Floyd Mayweather’s uncle and trainer Jeff ‘Jazzy’ Mayweather has chimed in with his two cents to predict the winner. Last month, reports emerged that a fight between Canelo and Crawford is in the final stages to be finalized for September in Las Vegas.

This sent the boxing world into a frenzy of excitement, as the long-awaited fight they’ve been demanding for over a year now seems closer to reality. Despite Crawford’s rampage in recent years, many felt climbing two weight classes to fight Canelo, would end badly for ‘Bud’ who struggled against Israil Madrimov at 154 pounds.

Even history has shown when former world champion Amir Khan climbed the ladder to fight Canelo, it ended in a knockout win for ‘Cinnamon.’ While renowned trainer and former world champion Jeff Mayweather doesn’t think Crawford’s fate would be as bad, he sees the Nebraska native tasting defeat for the first time in his career.

“That’s a tough one,” Jeff said when asked about his prediction for the fight during an interview with Fight Hype. Having seen his nephew, Floyd Mayweather Jr., defeat Canelo back in 2013 and Canelo’s rise since then, the 60-year-old knew exactly what Canelo was capable of and had to swallow a bitter pill to acknowledge Canelo’s prowess in the super middleweight division.

“I think Terence got a tremendous skill set,” he told Fight Hype. “But I don’t know [if he can win] because he is jumping two weight classes. At 154, he looks good the Terence Crawford that we know. But… with Canelo being at 68 [for] as long as he’s been, I think that Crawford [is] going probably give him a great fight but I lean slightly toward Canelo. That’s just because of his size not because of skills.”

However, Jeff Mayweather isn’t the only legendary trainer around the block!

Teddy Atlas predicts potential Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford fight

Teddy Atlas has been in the game since before Mike Tyson became a world champion. The legendary trainer, and former analyst for ESPN, has worked and seen countless fighters come and go throughout his career. While appearing in his podcast on YouTube, ‘The Fight with Teddy Atlas,’ the renowned trainer claimed he was not willing to bet against Crawford.

“I ain’t going against Crawford,” Atlas said. “I do think he’s that special guy, I think Canelo is special too, but I think Crawford is special in a little bit even more so.” Atlas argues that Crawford has not learned to lose yet, noting, “I think he does have those special ingredients that go beyond the physical genetics [and] the physical DNA.”

It appears the boxing world is truly divided on who they think will win the fight when and if the fight happens. It’s been some time since Canelo Alvarez has been in a neck-to-neck battle, so the next few months are crucial in learning about the fate of the fight. Who do you think will win? Will Crawford suffer the same fate as others before him?
