The only difference between a dancer and a boxer is that one doesn’t have a partner trying to take their head off. But when you’re as skilled as former undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez, avoiding punches becomes second nature—allowing you to focus on your rhythm and movement. And lately, that’s exactly what he seems to be perfecting.

Just the other day, The Ring took to X to share a short clip of Canelo Alvarez. What was in the video, you ask? Well, ‘Cinnamon’ was grooving to some Mexican beats in the gym while working on a standing speed bag. But instead of appreciating his rhythm and skill, fans chose to criticize the boxing legend. Let’s find out why!

Canelo Alvarez shows off gym moves

If you didn’t know, Canelo has been making headlines lately with his big plans for 2025. Recently, he pulled a fast one on YouTube/boxer Jake Paul and instead signed a four-fight deal with Riyadh Season, kicking things off against William Scull on May 3rd before a highly anticipated showdown with Terence Crawford in September.

Regardless, The Ring shared the clip with the caption, “Canelo Alvarez having fun back in training ahead of his fight against William Scull on May 3rd.” However, the video didn’t land the way Canelo might have hoped. While his bout with Crawford has generated plenty of buzz, fans weren’t too thrilled about his fight against Scull—and they made that very clear.

Fan demands real Mariachi music

Despite Scull’s undefeated stature, he quickly got roped into the jokes. One user suggested that since Scull is an unknown opponent, Canelo would beat him without much effort. “He’s fighting some dude no one has ever heard of, I’d be goofing off too,” the user wrote. However, it’s more likely that Canelo was just having some fun in between training.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Canelo Alvarez just having fun, or is he underestimating his upcoming fight with Scull?

Meanwhile, this user pointed out that Canelo never even wanted to fight William Scull. “He didn’t even wanna fight Scull in the first place which is why his belt got taken away, he knows it’s an easy payday,” the user wrote. Notably, Scull instead defeated Vladimir Shishkin to get his hands on the IBF super middleweight title.

However, the next user sided with Canelo Alvarez. “Nobody trains nonstop in a boxing gym without some fun here and there 😭,” wrote the user. When you are in public view all the time, people tend to come up with their own conclusions.

Meanwhile, another user accused Canelo Alvarez of not taking his upcoming fight seriously. “Bro just be doing boxing for fun now,” the user wrote. Yet, if he can bring home the win, then what’s the point of killing yourself in the gym?

Someone else suggested Canelo should have used some “mariachi” music instead. “Can we get some real mariachi and not this royalty-free background music 😭,” the user commented. If Canelo can defeat Crawford in September, that might become possible.

That said, Canelo Alvarez’s taking a break from training to showcase his moves doesn’t seem to have had the most positive reaction among fans. But the question is, will this affect his performance against Scull? We doubt it.
