Darren Till had a successful Misfits Boxing debut as he defeated Anthony Taylor via TKO in the sixth round. The duo headlined the Misfits Boxing 20 event at the Co-op Live arena in Manchester, England. The Liverpool native dominated the fight from start to finish and did not let Taylor breathe for a moment.

Till was exceptional in his debut, and the Liverpudlian was particularly connecting well with his counters. Even though Taylor tried to mount a comeback in the fifth round, ‘The Gorilla’ shut him down pretty quickly. After the fight, the 32-year-old even grabbed headlines by stating that he is planning to stay and compete in the squared circle.

The confession grabbed the fan’s attention, and everyone started thinking about his future in boxing. As Till has already created some high-profile rivalries, let’s take a look at whether he can make it big with gloves and his three biggest potential opponents as of now.

Tommy Fury

For the uninformed, the initial plan was for Till to face Tommy Fury, not Taylor, in his Misfits debut. The former UFC veteran prepared to lock horns with Tyson Fury‘s younger brother at Misfits 20. However, plans changed when the 32-year-old openly threatened to kick Fury’s head off if the fight didn’t go his way during a press conference on November 19. While Till ensured everyone that it was a way to attract more eyeballs, it completely backfired as ‘TNT’ opted out of the bout.

The ‘Love Island’ star took to his Instagram and announced his withdrawal from the fight. He claimed that the threats by Till to “not want to abide by professional boxing rules and that if he is losing the fight he will resort to kicking and other stupid MMA tactics,” as the reason for his backing out. In response, the Liverpudlian went ballistic on Tommy Fury after the last-minute cancellation and claimed his trash-talking was mental warfare. He further assured everyone that he would abide by the rules and had been practicing boxing for two years now, but it was too late.

However, with Darren Till‘s rant, the hype for this fight has increased even further and fans want to see this. Maybe ‘Gorilla’ can convince Fury once again and this time might keep his mouth shut as well as it will be a perfect fight to catapult him to boxing fame.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Darren Till's boxing career surpass his UFC legacy, or is he just chasing shadows?

KSI

Drama truly surrounded Darren Till’s debut all over. Tommy Fury backing out, Taylor being roped in as the last resort, a TKO victory, and finally KSI choosing former Chelsea legend instead of him. In the post-match interview with Ifn TV, Till stated that he would love to fight the Misfits CEO and co-founder. He even thought that KSI was going to call him out when he stepped into the ring after the event.

However, ‘The Gorilla’ couldn’t believe it when the reporter informed him of what had happened inside the ring. He couldn’t make sense and once again had a meltdown.

Till shouted, “What’s he fighting Wayne for?” to show how displeased he was at the decision. However, that fight is still not completely ruled out. The 1-0 has claimed that he is here to stay for a long time and even ‘JJ’ has a long career ahead of him. Even the Youtuber-turned-boxer knows that a fight against Till will sell.  So, sooner rather than later, we are bound to see Till in a crossover fight against one of Misfits’ biggest names.

Jorge Masvidal

Five years ago, Darren Till’s UFC career started to fall apart when he faced Jorge Masvidal inside the octagon. ‘Gamebred’, nearing his retirement, was a massive underdog against a motivated Till.

However, things didn’t go to plan as Masvidal landed a monstrous left hook to knock out the Liverpudlian who fell on the canvas unconscious. It looks like Till is desperate for revenge, as he called out the former welterweight champion after his first Misfits KO victory. He shouted, “F–k that(respect). Jorge Masvidal, Tommy Fury, Mike Perry, f—ing KSI, all of you, you f—ing gang of c—s.”

While Masvidal retired from MMA in April 2023 after a unanimous decision loss to Gilbert Burns last year, he announced his plans to come back. He declared, “I can’t go out on a f—king L,” claiming that the itch is still there. Masvidal also showed interest in boxing and if that is a route he wants to take, the fight against Till is tailor-made.

Prediction for Darren Till’s Boxing Career

Ceiling

While ‘The Gorilla’ has an amazing striking ability, his lack of a technical boxing foundation might stop him from going big. He will find success in the Misfits scene and influencer fights, but will not transition into the upper echelons of traditional boxing.

Peak

We might already be seeing Darren Till’s peak in the squared circle. With his ability, he is going to headline many influencer boxing cards with his ceiling being a fight against a big name like Tommy Fury. However, he is unlikely to achieve anything truly remarkable for a true championship level.

However, the 32-0 has claimed that he has been sincere in his training. If his dedication does not waver and he continues to train, who knows what might happen? At this point, this might be the best we will see of Darren Till in boxing. Do you think the same? Let us know your thoughts down below.
