Is Shakur Stevenson retired or not? Stevenson says he is, but most people believe it’s nothing more than a publicity stunt! Meanwhile, in a recent twist, the WBC lightweight champion dropped some hints at possibly coming out of his early retirement. However, under one condition! 

The update comes after ‘Sugar’ Stevenson announced his retirement from the sport of boxing. He last fought against Edwin De Los Santos in a fight that saw major criticism for his lackluster performance. However, a conversation on X with Ryan Garcia suggests he might be willing to make a comeback!

Shakur Stevenson realizes he should be wary of claiming anything online

Not long ago, Tim Bradley launched some verbal jabs at Garcia, claiming he was a “clown” and he belonged in a “Zoo.” Something that did not sit well with the rising star, so he sent back a flurry of tweets at Bradley. In one of those tweets, Garcia claimed, “I guess he is still mad I called him out on his commentating for the Stevenson fight.” This part of Garcia’s tweet attracted Stevenson’s eyes, who then tweeted at Garcia. 

He wrote, “Bro, keep my name in his mouth but never mention fighting me.” And, of course, Garcia hit back, asking, “Aren’t you retired??” That’s when Stevenson revealed what it would take for him to come out of his retirement. “I’ll come out for you.” wrote Stevenson in a now-deleted tweet!

However, not long after the series of tweets were shared on X by Ray Jackson, Stevenson wrote, “Y’all petty. Out of retirement, man…U gotta watch every word on this mf, lol.” What’s more, despite what Stevenson thinks Garcia meant by his tweet, the latter had a message for Stevenson.

Ryan Garcia claims Stevenson is annoying

After the situation unfolded, Garcia hopped back on X today with a message for ‘Sugar’ Stevenson. The Victorville native is currently in talks to set up a fight against Devin Haney, but he took some time to urge Shakur Stevenson to come out of retirement. “I’m trying to be as sincere even though Shakur is pretty annoying – don’t retire, don’t let these things get to you,” wrote Garcia.

He then reflected on whether Stevenson’s retirement was a publicity stunt. “If it’s a publicity stunt, well, play your move. But if it’s not, a performance shouldn’t stop your journey,” wrote Garcia. He even suggested if Stevenson decided to come back, things would smoothen out soon enough.
