Boxing Association dismisses paying Floyd Mayweather

According to DispatchLive, the promoters of the event wanted the payment to be made using government money. However, the NBSPA refused to do this, claiming that the money could be used to promote sports in the country. The chairman of the association Ayanda Matiti stated that although they were excited to see Mayweather, they were not aware that the government would pay for his expense. Once this was revealed the association decides to use the sums to better develop the sport in the country.

According to the CEO of J4Joy promotions, Arnold Nododile, the company never requested funds from the NBSPA. He stated that this was an attempt by Matiti to sabotage the event as he could not acquire the services of Mayweather.

I don’t really have anything to say. It is baseless to say we requested R20 million from the government. That was a malicious attempt to sabotage the event.” he said.
