In a world where boxing talent runs deep and the contenders are many, it’s hard to pinpoint a single best boxer. Yet, Alycia Baumgardner, the reigning undisputed super featherweight champion, has stepped up to settle the debate. She’s named the top female boxer in the world, and her choice is bound to surprise you!

The female boxing arena is brimming with talent that could easily rival their male counterparts. With titans like Claressa Shields, Amanda Serrano, Katie Taylor, and Alycia Baumgardner—all reigning undisputed champions—the competition is fierce. But how do you determine the best among them? ‘The Bomb’ Baumgardner has the answer, and she shared it in a tweet on X today.

Responding to the same question from a user on the social media platform, ‘The Bomb’ surprisingly wrote, “We all are!” In a world where every boxer likes to toot their own horn, Baumgardner explained that they have all accomplished great things in the sport to achieve undisputed status. 

However, it’s worth mentioning that purely in terms of achievements, Claressa Shields and Katie Taylor take the cake, as Shields won gold in the Olympics twice and Taylor also secured a gold during the 2012 London games. Nonetheless, Baumgardner proposed a new way to figure out who is the best.

“How is your character outside the ring? That’s the question”, Baumgardner continued. While it’s a noble answer from the Fairmont, Ohio native, her tweet quickly met with friction with one of boxing’s highly respected promoters. 

Lou DiBella highlights Christina Linardatou fight

Some backstory: Baumgardner defeated Christina Linardatou in July last year via a clean unanimous decision, but in the aftermath of the fight, she tested positive for two banned substances. She was later declared not guilty of intentionally ingesting the performance-enhancing drugs. While that could be fair, the fact of the matter was those substances were found in her system and she could have benefited from them.

So, responding to Baumgardner’s tweet, Lou DiBella wrote, “Don’t disagree with your premise, but… @MambaChristina [Linardatou] is deserving of a rematch”. Interestingly, their last fight was a rematch from their initial encounter in July 2018, where Baumgardner lost the fight via a split decision. DiBella suggested Linardatou was a victim even if Baumgardner didn’t mean to cheat.

“How is your character”, DiBella asked, adding, “Christina beat you fairly. You beat her with an asterisk. Be fair to her. Clean the slate. Good luck going forward”. It’s not clear whether Baumgardner would rematch Linardatou, but she hasn’t responded to DiBella’s tweet as of the time of writing.

With that said, the best female boxer in the world topic seems to be a little murky. But undeniably, Alycia Baumgardner, Amanda Serrano, Claressa Shields and Katie Taylor are all among the elites right now. There’s a lot of boxing left to decide who is the best. Who do you think comes out on top?
