Unified Welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr has spoken up on a potential super-fight. Ever since his dominance in the division, there have been rumors of a fight against Canelo Alvarez. The undefeated American welterweight has never shied away from a challenge, and so many believe this could happen. However, ‘The Truth’ has since had his take on things.

Speaking in an interview on the broadcast of the Canelo Alvarez vs Callum Smith event, Spence Jr voiced his opinion. He said, “I think it’s a great fight, especially at 160. I’m a guy that sucks down to 147. I mean, I really think that a lot of people see probably 70-80% of who I really am at 147 pounds.”
Spence Jr explained, “I’m a guy that has out-grown the weight, you know… I’m just holding around because I want to be an undisputed champion at 147. But if there is a great fight at 160, I can definitely move up to 160 and fight there easy.”
When quizzed on how a Spence Jr-Canelo fight would go, he said, “I think it would go ‘all-out war’. Have it at the AT&T stadium. 100,000 plus.”

Would an Errol Spence Jr vs Canelo Alvarez fight make sense?
As Spence Jr rightly said, there is not much more for him to prove at 147 other than becoming an undisputed champion. For that to happen, Spence Jr would have to fight Terence Crawford. However, he also gave an update on that situation and things don’t look good for that fight.
He admitted that the only way fans will see that fight is if he takes the lesser percentage.
On the #CaneloSmith broadcast @ErrolSpenceJr being interviewed. Said maybe a @terencecrawford fight in 2021 if he takes the lesser of a 60-40 or 70-30 split “or whatever we decide to give him.” (Means no fight.) Also said he’d like to fight @Canelo at 160 eventually. #boxing
So, if Errol Spence Jr can not become the undisputed champion of the world, then a potential super-fight against Alvarez would be a viable option.
