Edgar Berlanga is officially a free agent. After his first-round TKO win over Jonathan Gonzalez Ortiz a few weeks ago, his contract with Matchroom Boxing is done. Now, with no promotional ties holding him back, Berlanga is eyeing some big names for his next fight—Jaime Munguia, Jermall Charlo, and maybe even his arch-rival Caleb Plant. And that’s where things get messy. Everybody agrees that a showdown between Berlanga and Plant would be one of the biggest fights of 2025. But the problem? Nobody knows if it’s actually happening.

According to Caleb Plant, they’ve already sent Berlanga a fight contract and are just waiting for a response. In an interview with Boxing Social’s Matt Lenihan recently, Plant hinted that Berlanga might be stalling. “Just stay tuned, but it ain’t going to be him; he don’t want it; he don’t want to fight me,” Plant said. This insinuation seems to have angered Berlanga and he’s not having it. He flat-out denied ever receiving a contract, calling out Plant’s claims as a lie.

“You’re not a fu–ing boss, Motherfu–er! You work for PBC! WTF you talking about?! You Bi–h!?” he exclaimed. But Berlanga didn’t stop there. He flipped the script and announced that if anyone can send anyone a contract it’s him, not Plant. Why?

Because “I’m the A side, you the B side!” meaning he’s the bigger name, the bigger draw, and he would call the shots. And to drive his point home? He claimed he’s going to send his opponent a contract where he only gets $200K, while Berlanga rakes in $30 million. “You going to fight me for 200K & Imma make 30 Million,” the WBO NABO Super Middleweight champion declared loudly.

Whether or not that math adds up is another story, but one thing’s for sure— Edgar Berlanga is making it clear who he thinks the real star is. But leaving the contract thing aside, it looks like even Caleb Plant is ready to end the fight in the early rounds.

Caleb Plant knows how to school Edgar Berlanga

Caleb Plant didn’t need a long-winded breakdown to explain how he’d beat Edgar Berlanga—he let his confidence do the talking. During the interview with Boxing Social, Plant was asked, “What happens in that fight between you and Edgar? How do you beat Edgar Berlanga?” With a smirk, he simply replied, “Spa-k his a–.” The response had everyone around him laughing, but make no mistake—Plant wasn’t joking.

He clearly sees himself as the superior boxer, and honestly? A lot of people agree. Caleb Plant last stepped into the ring in September, where he scored a 9th-round TKO over Trevor McCumby at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. With his technical skill set and experience against some of the best in the super middleweight division, many believe he’d handle Edgar Berlanga without much trouble.

But what do you think? Would Caleb Plant take Edgar Berlanga to school, or is the 27-year-old being underestimated? Do let us know your thoughts below.
