The Quadfather may have never won the Mr. Olympia, but the 1980 IFBB Mr Universe winner changed the face of bodybuilding forever. He was the crowd’s favorite whenever he got on stage and went on to become one of the most popular bodybuilders of his time. People were awestruck by his quads and overall figure and thought it was not only his hard work but genetics.

One look at Platz in his prime will tell you that his hamstrings and quads were not just the work of genetics. The otherworldly physique of the Golden Eagle was more than that. In a recent video, Platz talked about how genetics was not all that was there for bodybuilding.

Tom Platz talks about defying genetics

In a video uploaded by Musclemind media, the icon was holding a cup of espresso and giving a huge shot of wisdom. He said, “One of the things you have to realize is that you cannot be a victim of your genetics. Your genetics must be a victim to you.”

He then said that this was the mindset he had when he was a teenager and started as a bodybuilder. His thought process was that he would not be a victim of his genetics and push as much as he could to ensure that he could make more progress. Even to this day, he is a force in the bodybuilding community and travels the world to train those who were looking to set out on their fitness journeys. 

At 68, Platz still has legs and quads that can give any veteran bodybuilder a run for their money. Previously, he had explained how he preferred resistance training.

Revealing the reason behind his cross-striated quads, Platz had earlier said that resistance plays a big role in getting more mass and bulk. According to him, a balance of both kinds of processes will help bodybuilders get the best muscle. His love for leg development has never died and his focus on resistance techniques is why he continues to hold the title of the Quadfather.

Even after dealing with nerve issues in his legs, Platz still engages in intense workouts, showcasing his unparalleled dedication and vigor to remain one of the fittest people around even at this age.
