Bodybuilding legend Dorian Yates falls into the group of elites who have preserved their fitness despite their age. Like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lee Haney, and a handful of others, Dorian Yates still trains regularly. In fact, he may have even trained on his 62nd birthday. However, it would’ve been a different type of training because Yates spent his birthday with Wim Hof.

Dorian Yates thanked people for their kind birthday wishes in his latest video. The six-time Mr. Olympia said he was “feeling great,” and looking forward to spending the day with the Iceman. Yates said that he and Hof would do “breathing exercises, some ice, and some crazy stuff.” Although Yates is a bodybuilding legend, he has branched out since he stopped competing.

At 62, Dorian Yates focuses on his overall health as well as strength training. While he has stuck to the High-Intensity Training (HIT) principle, the former champion also trains for endurance. Like Arnold Schwarzenegger, The Shadow is also a fan of riding his bike for miles and has built up his VO2 Max.

In fact, Dorian Yates underwent some tests last year where it was revealed that the 62-year-old’s biological age was between 30 and 39. Similarly, Wim Hof is also a master of breath control and has immense cardiovascular strength. So the bodybuilding icon wanted to learn some tricks from the multiple Guinness World Record holder on his birthday.

However, fans and fellow bodybuilders weren’t done wishing the former champion. Although Dorian Yates thanked people for the birthday wishes in his video, many more flocked to his comments box to wish him again.

Bodybuilding legends wish Dorian Yates

Four-time Mr. Olympia and one of the last men to belong to the mass monster era, Jay Cutler, commented on Yates’s post. “Happy birthday day Yates,” wrote the 50-year-old, who also trains regularly despite retiring from competition. The reigning Mr. Olympia Derek Lunsford also wished Dorian Yates. “Happy birthday!” wrote the 2023 Mr. Olympia champion.

Eight-time Mr. Olympia Lee Haney, the first man to break Arnold Schwarzenegger’s record, also wished the 62-year-old. “Happy Birthday Champ. Looking good and healthy as we should,” wrote the man who defeated Dorian Yates to earn his eighth Sandow trophy. One of Yates’s most consistent onstage challengers, Shaw Ray, wrote “Happy birthday champ!” The Shadow’s best friend, Paul Baxendale, commented, “Happy Birthday! One love brother.”

While you won’t see the six-time Mr. Olympia winner at big events like the Olympia or the Arnold Classic, he remains one of the most respected champions in the sport.
