Bodybuilding icon, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s age-old buddy, and co-actor, Dolph Lundgren was recently featured in an interview with Graham Bensinger, on YouTube. The actor had been silently battling cancer after he was diagnosed with a kidney tumor in 2015. Despite the grave scenario, he triumphed over it and now appreciates life a little more. Later, Schwarzenegger appeared in the video, recalling their good-old memories from the 80s while working out.

The star athlete revealed that Lundgren was a star in the gym back in the day. Narrating their friendship story, he mentioned one particular incident that left him impressed.

As per the interview that surfaced on Wednesday, Lumdgren was asked about the vibe of the Gold’s gym during his peak years. He shared that Schwarzenegger was often there with his crew and friends. Moments later, the icon featured while working out turn by turn with the actor. Therefore, during a particular set, Arnie pointed out, “Hold it hold it, no no no be holding it down there, remember the old days, you always held it in the last rep. I know when you get older things are not as easy anymore.” 

However, during his turn, he exclaimed, “I’m struggling here, this is elderly abuse.” Eventually, the host enquired about the star duo’s first meet up which encouraged a fascinating story. The IFBB pro told that actress, Grace Jones, who was then dating Lundgren, asked him if he could join his workout session at the gym.

The athlete promptly agreed to the request, and this was the beginning of their iconic friendship of 40 years. The source even revealed that this year is marked as the 40th anniversary of their friendship as The Austrian Oak suddenly realized the fact. They met in 1983, and now after 40 years of being buddies, the duo recalled the greatest memories they shared.

The source shed light on the seven-time Mr. Olympia’s intrigue for Lundgren’s skills. After Jones asked him, he said, “I said absolutely no problem so he came in, we worked out, we saw him kicking and boxing and hitting the bags and the headbars and the knee thing…so after like a month doing that, I said to myself this is fantastic”

One day, the 65-year-old Hollywood star decided to showcase his finesse in front of the champion. “he went and got this can and put it above my head, so I said what is this about and then wham! He kicks the can off my head and never touched my head!” the athlete disclosed. Nevertheless, Lundgren, full of humility, claimed he doesn’t remember this incident. “he would never even say that because he’s one of those guys, what happens in the gym stays in the gym type of things,” Arnie shared.

Utterly stunned by his skills, Schwarzenegger was determined that Lundgren must feature in the movies because there were few who could perform kicks like that. The rest is history.
