The video, shared by IFBB Pro coach Greg Doucette, sent shivers down the viewer’s spines as they witnessed a harrowing gym accident unfold.

In the heart-stopping video on Instagram, a gym-goer named Regin Seiji G. Arai Stergakis found himself in a life-threatening situation while attempting a bench press. As he was in the midst of placing plates onto the barbell stand, disaster struck when a row of weights slipped, nearly crushing him beneath the massive load.

In the aftermath of the near tragedy, Doucette took to his Instagram to reflect on the ordeal, emphasizing the importance of safety in strength training. “Near death experience,” he wrote, urging fellow lifters to remain vigilant until the very end of their lifts. “Remember the lift is not finished until you safely re-rack the weight! Don’t celebrate too early!” he cautioned, sharing the video with his followers and crediting @progained for posting the alarming moment.

Stergakis is a renowned powerlifter and fitness influencer known for sharing captivating workout videos on social media.  He achieved remarkable feats in the Junior Nationals 2023. With 661 lb in Squat, 424 lbs in Bench, and an astounding 776 lb in Deadlift, Stergakis set records and made history. His total of 1861 lbs is the heaviest ever in Denmark. Stergakis’s journey was captured on film, showcasing his incredible strength and dedication. However, while pushing his limits with an impressive lift of 443 pounds (201 kilograms) – a personal record almost turned fatal in an instant.

Despite Stergakis’s expertise and experience in powerlifting, even seasoned athletes are not immune to accidents that can occur in the blink of an eye. The lifting community grapples with the sobering reality of this close call.
